Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

Is Inclusivity On Your Menu?

An announcement about an upcoming cultural cuisine event raises the question for personal and corporate affairs, ‘Is inclusivity on your menu?’ Those who enjoy tasting varying cuisines, traveling, and speaking with people locally and from afar will doubtlessly have a blast at the event! The community residents will honor their homeland at the event by showcasing the food they enjoy most.

Moreover, there is much that businesses can learn and incorporate into their daily routine, team meetings, and special events from the idea of putting inclusivity on your menu. The next question: Is now the right time to get creative in your appreciation of diverse staff, collaborative partners, and those with whom you work?

My Story

Long ago, neighborhoods were the opposite of welcoming integration. No one desired to learn about the history or even recent experiences of the day regarding the cultural variances. Even more astonishing, in that environment, restaurants remained solely in the neighborhood of their culture for many years. More shocking is that I grew up in a large city of many ethnicities, but each remained separated.

My first recollection of tasting ‘foreign food’ was at a Chinese Restaurant. The initial question I asked was, ‘why did it take so long for us to experience the cuisine?’ The answer was in the form of mumbled words. Many years passed until some restaurant owners felt brave enough to move into neighborhoods other than their own.

There is the saying, ‘Variety is the spice of life.’ Now imagine putting inclusivity on your menu for team events. Undoubtedly, with diverse teams, it will be easy to include spicey food, too! The spice, encouragement of trying new cuisines, and inclusivity will perk up the energy of most. Accordingly, many team members will be enthusiastic about the event and tasting the variety of food.

Community Focus Works to Everyone’s Benefit

The Team, Corporate and Collaborative Perspective

The underlying benefit of hosting events with the dedication to learning about the varying cultures is in the increased comfort level with one another. When we share food, we are more likely to get into a more in-depth conversation on a personal level to get to know one another better. We learn of one another’s experiences both here and potentially abroad. The insights increase effective communication among one another, an essential component of teamwork.

As our comfort level increases with the people we work, meet, and unexpectedly encounter, it becomes far easier to conduct and grow business.

Your Story: Is Inclusivity On Your Menu?

Anyone with the desire can put inclusivity on the menu. One can easily host an event at home and invite friends to bring their favorite dish of their ancestors. Similarly, corporate events can mirror the gesture that will provide greater camaraderie. Salespeople who invite their clients to lunch, will do well to ask them to select a restaurant within parameters to have them feel extra special.

Take time to consider which upcoming event or moment in time may be appropriate to host a unique and inclusive event. At the same time, imagine the benefits of putting inclusivity on the menu and what it may do for lifting morale.

The combination of food and being thoughtful of others is a winning combination for inviting appreciation and loyalty. Over time, your staff or counterparts will gladly contribute their best as they feel the appreciation grow.

In Conclusion: Inclusivity On Your Menu

Dedicating yourself to putting inclusivity on your menu allows opportunities to appear beyond what we initially thought possible. Conversations with prospective clientele and collaborative partners become far more relaxed and enjoyable. Accordingly, the time spent story-sharing increases with new insights that would otherwise not be ours and for us to experience dynamic business growth.
