Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Is it time to apply your skill-set toward a new vision?

There are two main factors for leaving a job or a collaborative project. These are either experiencing a lack of respect, or boredom of continually doing the same.

In either situation, it is definitely worth looking into reinventing yourself. One possibility is to work with associations to strengthen their membership. Another is to seek a higher level position in the corporate world. In the process you widen your own scope of knowledge.

Use the feeling of being under-valued as the motivator to move upward.

My Story

There have been times when I tried to make a job or a project work, but the respect or the income potential were very limited. Rather than coping with the frustration, I chose to seek new opportunities. At times it was difficult, but in the end, the move proved to be more rewarding.

My conclusion is we need to pursue work where we may make contributions that are appreciated. Otherwise, the effort just isn’t worthwhile as it could easily affect our health. It is up to each of us to hold our self worth and self esteem. After all, if we don’t, who will?

As a business professional, you always have to qualify and match the right client opportunity. The same is true for ourselves in every regard.

Your Story:  Apply Your Skill-Set Toward A New Vision

Are you in a situation where others expect you to use your expertise and donate much time to make their project a success? You might re-think where you are with that today:

  • Have other people had success working in the same environment?
  • Do you have enough experience to apply it elsewhere?
  • Which new endeavor do you believe will be more rewarding?

If you have thought about becoming an entrepreneur or a consultant, now might be the time. Ask those who you know, already in one of those capacities, for their advice. Specifically, ask what they wished they had known when they started out. The reason is, shock sets in with the realization of how much there is to learn.

Should the idea of independence be scary, then think of the various types of employment you might enjoy best. Three considerations are non-profits, associations aimed to improve society, or a higher level corporate position.

Before you are willing to accept any position, make certain you do not know everything required. This may sound strange, but if you know it all upfront, there will not be anything new to learn making advancement unlikely. It is said that you should always apply for a job 20% over your comfort level. Explain you are a quick learner and love a good challenge!
