Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Hearing “I don’t like selling” is almost a daily occurrence. In conversation with Caroline, today, the idea of reframing what she was relaying came to me. Reframing refers to attaching another perspective to the person’s frame of reference. Providing a differing framework is another form of negotiation and it encourages a deeper dialogue.

My Story

Upon hearing Caroline’s story of what transpired at a speaking event, I realized she incorrectly focuses on the tiniest details. Caroline is beating herself up for not selling copies of her books and now feels like a failure. I quickly interrupted the conversation to help put a new and improved perspective on it.

Revenue from individual book sales produces a fraction of income as compared to what Caroline did accomplish. A standing ovation while on stage was hers. People bought into who she is and what she has to offer. The emotional connection brought promises of a repeat engagement along with the promise of referrals. It sounds as if collaborative efforts are in the works, too.

Caroline obviously sold the audience on the benefit of working with her. All of this adds up to a grander total than selling a small quantity of books.

Sales Strategies and Social Selling

Successful sales are dependent upon allowing the personal you to shine through. People need to see your desire to help, the value you bring, and how their outcome will improve by doing business with you. Engaging storytelling as it applies to various parts of the conversations is what sells in-person. On stage, the emotional connection makes the difference. Online social selling is heavily dependent upon conveying upfront the experiences and lessons you learned with your audience.

To my delight, Mindi Rosser asked me to share how I maximize desired results through social selling. You may read my thought by clicking: SOCIAL SELLING SUCCESS.

Your Story

Most often, the inner chatter is used to tear oneself down. When one berates themselves often enough, the motivation to continue disappears.  The problem with negative self-talk is that it prevents sleeping at night and stress increases. Added stress leads to irritability, and then no one wants to be near you. It becomes a downhill ride into oblivion. On the other hand, positive self-talk may easily convert into motivation before an important appointment. Come to terms with how you treat yourself in your private time.

Do you:

  • Strive to learn in your quiet time
  • Analyze where there is room for improvement
  • Tell yourself ‘I can do it!’
Improved Approach

Convert the thought, “I’m not good at…” to “I will learn how…”

Each morning tell yourself “I can do this.” Every evening review your progress even if only baby steps to give approval. In six months time, look back at all that you have tweaked and how far you have come. Be proud of everything. Promise yourself to use this as ammunition in the future for self-talk.

Sales Tips
  1. Come to realization if you are beating yourself up with self-talk.
  2. Analyze the worst of the negative thought.
  3. Begin turning the poor sentiments into positive statements.
  4. Look in the mirror while telling yourself the new thought.
  5. In your downtime continue to focus on the good.
  6. After a month note whether you have seen a change in how people greet you.
  7. Each month verify improvement in progress.
  8. Note correlations between positive thought and improved opportunities.
  9. As new offers arise, revise your long-term goal.
  10. Celebrate Success!
