Why do businesspeople network?

The obvious answer is to make new contacts and hopefully find new prospects, turn them into clients and finally, close more sales. BUT, some people network as if the obvious answer is false!

I collected many business cards this week at a networking function. Upon entering the contact information into my database I was dismayed. A large percentage of cards did not display a name, email, phone number, or remotely indicate what the person did for a living.

How and why would someone call these people if so little care was put into their number one business asset? Without the proper attention to detail on the card, you increase the likelihood of it being tossed thus eliminating the opportunity for business. I am probably in a small minority of those who take time to research the internet trying to hunt down the needed information.

It is of utmost importance to pay attention that you are including all of the contact information necessary in order to conduct business. Next, your business name and card need to reflect what you do.

Find a marketing person who can help you brand your company name and translate it graphically onto your card. It will be well worth the money because this is the first step to attracting prospects to your sales pipeline and the beginning of the process to increase sales.

When you change your mindset to spending on necessities for business in order to present you and your business professionally, you will have an easier time with business development, marketing and closing more sales. You will be on your way to enjoying the Smooth Sale!
