Attract the Right Job or Clientele:
Do You Realize Your Purpose?
The ultimate accomplishment is to realize your purpose. In the early days of entrepreneurship, similar words came my way but were not understood. Most of us are so busy living life, that we merely maintain a running list of small to moderate goals. The achievements feel good for the moment. But the problem is the excitement soon vanishes into a distant memory.
As we mature, it’s natural to contemplate why we are here and question our purpose. We become more aware of time being precious and have a growing desire to be of service.
My Story
As I originally entered the entrepreneurial world, my focus was on moving my business forward. At the time, media interviews provided excitement. Even so, the attention quickly became fond memories and nothing more.
Setbacks and a down economy produce the need to begin anew. In spite of all the stressful situations encountered in the sales arena, I did my best to move forward. Eventually, I began to see the reasons for being where I am and the underlying meaning of previous experiences. I was beginning to realize my purpose.
Underneath the seeming non-ending chaos, I held two visions close to heart. One was to be able to help communities at large. My closely held idea is to travel the world.
Social media enabled me almost to accomplish both ideas. Each day I attempt to share helpful insights plus job openings that help my audience. Likewise, I share beautiful photos from around the world. The pictures are planting further ideas on where to travel next. And I have connected with people from around the world. I now view my actions as practice for the day I become a travel blogger.
I realize that overcoming all of the roadblocks are what got me to where I am today. The need to interview for a new job year after year gave me insight on interviewing skills. My original form of helping communities was to help job seekers interview well. The knowledge I learned the hard way was formatted into an easy-to-digest methodology . I soon wrote the book, HIRED! The content offers my interviewing stories. Tips conclude each chapter for readers to successfully acquire the job of their desire.
Being different was my motivator for leaving the comfort zone at a young age to begin the traveling journey. Meeting people in various parts of the world improved my communication skills and openness to hearing out new ideas.
Laughable now, it seems every new direction I attempted to take was privy to three exclamations:
- You can’t do that!
- Ridiculous; that will never happen!
- It’s impossible!
Successful salespeople and entrepreneurs seek out loopholes and attempt the new without asking for permission. Should a boundary be over-stepped, one asks ‘why’ to better understand and avoid the same error in the future. Sales taught me valuable lessons. Most of all, I learned to be more determined than ever. While sales may not entirely be my purpose, the endeavor enabled my purpose.
Sales Lessons
- Listen to feedback
- Share my perspective
- Negotiate an improved outcome
My three sales lessons work for almost every situation. Ironically, sales management had a tough time dealing with my listening, asking questions, and then repeating their words from my perspective. The negotiated outcome was always to my favor.
Humorous Examples
Story #1
Sales Manager: Either you begin selling like everyone else, or I will fire you; understand?
Me: Yes, I do understand. But if I’m selling incorrectly, please explain why I’m always at the top of the scoreboard.
Ending: Dead silence giving way to me having authority over my style.
Story #2
Sales Manager: You cannot leave here without signing the document in front of you.
Me: You are offering me a salary equivalent to selling papers door-to-door while I bring in large corporations as clients?
Sales Manager: Yes. Sign the document now.
Me: Laughing hard – ask me tomorrow when April Fools Day is over!
Ending: The Sales Director doubled the offer, and I began interviewing for the next job. For more insights read:
