There is no generic model for being at the heart of business success as it depends upon the individual’s thinking and company goals. However, these items are essential for inclusion:

  • Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Genuine relationships
  • Delivering value beyond expectations.

Beginning with leadership, they are to communicate their mission and goals for conducting business and include the four bullet points above. Upon hiring each new staff member, it’s critical to share the thinking by including it in training. At team meetings, discuss experiences with clientele, including the highs and lows of the above. Executives do their best when they encourage staff to embrace the company mission and promote their leadership as time progresses.

Salespeople receive first-hand knowledge of what prospective clients seek and desire most. Business success will elevate when all salespeople feel they can contribute their experiences and new insights from conversations with their clientele for moving forward. Diversity and inclusion are essential for working toward the heart of business success. 

In the sales environment, the seemingly low-level people helped me meet with the CEOs of each company I visited. The heart of business success requires treating everyone equally as if they were the CEO. The extra genuine respect is non-competitive and enables turning prospects into clients.

You may frequently hear that meeting with the CEO of a Fortune 100 company is impossible, but that is only sometimes the case. Our job is to seek out ways to make it possible. But it is vital to remember that getting into the C-Suite requires taking one step at a time, acknowledging every person you meet within the company as if they were the executive leader. 

The better sales tools are:

  1. Respect
  2. Relationship building
  3. Equal treatment of all
  4. Requesting feedback
  5. Revision and repeat.

Take time to compare successes versus setbacks to determine where the issue lies. Review whether the same event occurred at other times to avoid a habit that does not work out well. Strategize the fix and test the revised approach. Trial and error are essential to business success, with revision right behind.
