Attract The Right Job Or Clientele:

Do You Qualify Connections Methodically?

Friday Humor: My unconventional style for how I began to qualify connections methodically.

Upon moving to a new city, a long while ago, a woman offered a collaborative idea that caught my interest. And upon mentioning the possibility to a couple of others who knew her and who might also hold interest, the unwanted response came my way:

‘Stay away from her because no one likes her, plus her ideas are ridiculous!’

Unbeknownst to them, I became even more motivated to work with the person in question. And a huge smile came over me. The description of the person matched how most everyone continued to describe me.

My thought: If we both have ridiculous ideas that will never fly, the worst case is we can become good friends!

Sure enough, over time, we became business advocates for one another and built a strong network of trustworthy peers. The commonality being none of us were popular.

Some of the not stupid, but unconventional ideas include:

  1. Don’t do what’s popular but instead, do what will work best for you.
Authenticity matters. Those of us who are different have the advantage to excel! Over time we build a unique stand-out brand that works in the background converting it into an effective branding program.
  2. Eliminate a sole focus on money.
Doing good in your community ranks high among many and contributes to new opportunity.
  3. Continuity requires that we never stop learning. The advocacy to help others grow returns at least tenfold to empower us all.

My new friend provided the best business lessons of all:

  1. Move from competition to collaboration.
Connecting with people who think similarly combining their efforts see far more robust results.

       2. Don’t sell; instead, build an attraction marketing machine.

Open to Testing

As a former corporate salesperson, the suggestions were unusual at best. But like a loyal client, I implemented one new idea at a time to test if the ideas would work. Why did I take the risk?

There are always two sides to every situation that are essential to explore before making an important decision. Although we may initially believe our ideas are best, we do better to set them aside and consider those of others.

Weighing the pros and cons of new thought helps us decipher which steps to take next to improve our effort. One starting point may fuel the fire to succeed.

Admittedly, the idea of saving much time by testing the possibility of people finding and liking my work was highly appealing. It almost felt like a magic wand was in the picture concerning the effort. And when we revise the action, we typically catapult a level or two. The worst case is to learn from what does not work out well to move forward our way.

Thankfully, the unfolding ‘best yet’ strategy came to be. I began blogging to see if sharing helpful information would increase attention to my work. The results started to pour in favorably.

Sales experience and intuition came into play as unusual ideas come forth. Before saying ‘yes’ to any ‘opportunity,’ I check for the following:

  • Demeanor and tone of voice I see and hear.
Is the person talking down or treating me as an equal with the dedication to help?
  • The choice of words.
The verbiage indicates whether the person is authentic or memorizing a script.
  • The person’s focus
We quickly hear whether the person is bent on selling anything to make money or is attempting to help improve my current situation.

Social media enables the ability to qualify connections methodically globally. Humor aside, I carefully read a person’s profile to seek out the commonalities we may share. The common traits can include:

  • Experiences in common
  • Mindset for helping others.
  • Apparent authenticity.

The Life-Changing Moment

The one differentiator that always attracts my attention is quite unusual. A select few have lived through a near-death experience that changed their life for the better, including me. The pain before the surgery was unfathomable. It took many months afterward to recover from my supposed ‘irreparable’ broken neck. The entire experience was a most remarkable life-changing event and unforgettable.

My commitment to methodically qualify connections as I seek commonality continues to bring about time-worthy and memorable conversations. One such new acquaintance is that of Ryan Lindner. Always a pleasant surprise to meet another who also comes with a near-death experience to share.

The Half-Known Life by Ryan Lindner

A near-death experience inspires beyond imagination!

Ryan Lindner’s Story

Upon reviewing Ryan’s profile online, it became evident that we have much in common. Our approach to building business and qualifying connections methodically, plus embracing a near-death experience and the lessons that come forth, left little reason not to connect.  And it is our similar experiences that serve to inspire our audience.

In his book, The Half-Known Life, we find highly inspiring and motivating quotes from well-known people. The author himself provides the same in the titles of his chapters, such as: ‘Becoming You: Your Relationship with Yourself.’ Another chapter is entitled, ‘Your Relationship with The World.’ He continues to highlight ‘Lessons from Near-Death.’

Another commonality between us is that each of our near-death experiences impacts how we live life, all for the better. Should you desire to know more and find inspiration packed with motivation, I highly recommend his book!
