Back to the Office?

NOTE: Our collaborative Blog provides insights into the question, ‘What Will It Take to Bring Employees Back to the Office?

The pandemic has made many people question their working conditions. As a result, so many people have wanted to change their careers. Still, there is a challenge ahead as we start to return to the working environment, whether the same or a new job. Many employees don’t want a designation in the office. However, many employers wish everyone to return to the office like before.

The question, ‘what can we do to bring our employees back to the office environment?’ is worthy of serious consideration. It’s costly to experience a non-ending turnover plus the continual need to hire new people. The dilemma heavily impacts the business’s bottom line. Review the suggestions below to realize your balance between employee satisfaction and business growth.

What Will It Take to Bring Employees
Back to the Office?

Making The Office A Better Place To Be

As obvious as it sounds, many people do not want to return to the office because of old pet peeves. Whether it’s other employees or just the fact that the office is not clean enough, it’s necessary to listen to what employees want if we’re going to bring them back to the office effectively.

There are many ways to change the office, from a simple office cleaning company to make sure the place is spotless to altering the layout. Still, the fact is that if our employees are going to come back to the office, we’ve got to make sure the building is something that will give them the foundation for an effective day’s work.

For productivity to increase as employers promise, the layout becomes critical. Many people are more productive at home than in the office, so they would rather stay at home. It’s necessary to entice people into the office. You can do so by giving them the opportunity for collaboration. In turn, they will experience increased productivity over what they would have at home.

Address the Divide Between the Employer and the Employee Preferences

Being in charge of a business means that you want to live, eat, and breathe the office environment because it’s what makes you feel alive. One cannot say the same for your employees. Therefore, understanding the divide between your employees and yourself is vital. It can relate to productivity, but it can also connect to lifestyle. For example, employees have to pick up children from school, plus additional responsibilities. The commute adds heavily to the frustration. Having a balance between the two can make a big difference.

For example, you may want to bring them into the office for just a few hours a day or attend important meetings. Having an in-person meeting is one of the best ways to get your employees back to the office, even if it is just for a few hours.

Asking Employees What It Will Take

It’s not that you want to be desperate to have your employees return to the office. But it’s necessary to ensure that your return on investment is supported. Many employees benefit from a hybrid approach to work.

Consider the ‘what if’ you can employ the same practices:

  • Will this translate to more people coming to the office?
  • Will a new approach for hybrid work lead to better collaboration?
  • Is it possible that adhering to the above suggestions may improve the office dynamic?

The fact is that employees want to work in a location that makes them more productive and benefits their life. It’s worth considering whether the situation is more about bringing the balance than it is about forcing them into the office full-time.
