New Perspectives

Long ago it appeared that Hallmark created two new holidays in the U.S. just to sell more greeting cards – Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.  As someone growing up in a household, it seemed it was Parents’ day every day without the need of buying cards and gifts.  As I matured and recognized elderly relatives were by themselves due to loss, I would call on a monthly basis to see how they were; I still didn’t need an official holiday to tell me to do so.

But somehow I grew older and this morning reflected upon a different side to the meaning of the holidays.  It’s about respect and acknowledgment.  Perhaps your father is no longer around to celebrate, or someone you know is abroad with the military, or an elderly man lives all by himself.

The added acknowledgment of wishing someone a special day can make the difference in their life.  That certain someone doesn’t even have to be a parent, but a call with your friendly voice or in-person visit will go a long way to make the person feel special and appreciative of the care you show.

What does all of this have to do with interviewing or business development?  When you apply the same level of respect for everyone you meet, you don’t relaly have to sell because the relationship is real and desired.  This is the Smooth Sale!

And if you have thc luxury to be celebrating with your family – I wish you a very Wonderful Holiday!
