We have likely all heard the expression that ‘Opposites Attract’. The same may apply to business strategy and career growth. For example, many people at work are consumed with the details to keep in mind, which often become consuming, overwhelming, and highly stressful. Worse, one’s desk becomes cluttered, online files are all-consuming and overwhelming, and nudges by management contribute to one’s anxiety.

Ambition: The Good and the Bad
Ambition is necessary to embrace, but not to let it get the best of one. We often need to remind ourselves about ‘one step at a time.’ No matter where one lives, a crowded city or in a forested environment, there is always inspiration for us to embrace; our job is to seek it out. For example, watching birds fly, observing the formation of varying clouds, or noticing the contrasting colors among leaves on trees or flowers can help ease stress and ultimately foster new thoughts that apply to work. Similarly, activities like water fountains or beach visits can have a similar effect.
One note of caution is not to allow ourselves to be so ambitious that we refuse to listen to hear and see signals all around us that may add or subtract from our plan. Worse is the act of discouraging others from sharing their ideas. No matter one’s style, it is vital to move forward at a moderate pace to avoid unnecessary mishaps and misunderstandings.
Root Cause for Proceeding
Reasons for moving forward with an ambitious idea can be exponential, or one specific reason tops everything else. No matter how the motivation comes about, it’s wise to weed out the root cause for a better understanding, resolve issues at hand, and then climb the ladder for a better tomorrow.
Consider Varying Approaches
Rarely is there just one answer for moving one’s career or a business forward. Again, the idea that ‘opposites attract’ comes to mind. Whether entrepreneurial or employed by a firm, it’s wise to learn additional approaches to what one already knows. Often, the idea of doing the opposite can be beneficial by providing extra insights, knowledge, and skill sets for one’s core talent.
Enlightenment
Working with opposite skills and ideas can bring about enlightenment, revealing what one appreciates most and their desire to improve upon it. It may also bring about a wide variety of new skillsets and thoughts, as well as a wider array of connections and collaborative partners. Doors open unexpectedly that might otherwise remain closed.
The idea is like the previously mentioned ‘Clean Desk Policy’, as one now has ‘A Clean Perspective’ for what to develop in terms of career and business growth. One path is never the answer, and when we find the one that works well for us, we must pay attention to enjoy a fulfilling life ahead.
