Attract the Right Job or Clientele: Communicate with Clarity

My Story

It was ironic that yesterday I wrote about being impatient and of time efficiency. Today, I attempted to fill out an online document. My domain name and password were the first steps. Following instruction, I entered just the domain name, but it wasn’t accepted. The first effort was followed up with trying both the extension and then the programming code. None of the above worked. The password was copied and pasted.  Frustration set in so I called the company.

“Say what you mean and mean what you say.” – Lewis Carroll

Thirty minutes later, I learned that while the document said to enter the domain name, they meant to say enter the email address. I’m just one person who wasted at least twenty minutes. Multiply that by the countless others who experienced futile attempts.

To maintain loyal clients and avoid abandoning of shopping carts, review all documentation to be certain it is crystal clear with instruction. Double check for possible broken links too.

Your Story

Devote some time once per week to review where you are and the next steps to maintain vitality of business.  Strategize what a new plan of action might be with sound reasoning behind it. By selling yourself on the wisdom of implementing new ideas, you will have the basis for clearly communicating the project to others.

As the thought crystallizes, it will be at the top of priorities as you hold client meetings or attend networking events. Usually, a word or two will trigger the thought foremost in your mind. Discussion with peers leads to finding synergy.

Before attending an event, carefully think through the top three subjects that hold the most importance to you. Apply these topics to the story of your overall work.

Practice telling your story in two minutes or less as no one likes to listen for long. Then prepare short statements revealing the help you seek.

For example:

  • The type of people you wish to meet.
  • Advice on furthering new projects.
  • Career change.

Conventions are an outstanding opportunity to meet more people in a short period plus find the help you need. Preparing for talking points prevents misunderstanding. At the same time, you will be on higher alert for meeting those who might be able to help. Events are sometimes an excellent source for finding your next job given many people are assembled together.

Instead of memorizing statements, communicate them to the interests of the other person, so they sound original and sincere every time. As the conversation develops, seek ways in which you might offer help, too.

Before you part from a conversation, check for any lingering questions to erase all possibility of doubt.

When you do meet someone who volunteers help, make a point of asking when they would like you to follow-up after the event. Take note and follow up as promised. Clarity in communication coupled with holding the interest of another in mind increases possibility and makes the time spent well-worthwhile.

Sales Tips:

  1. Incorporate a new idea that excites you into your personal brand two-minute story.
  2. Develop talking points about the plan.
  3. Inquire into new developments of peers.
  4. Share your new ideas to exchange insights.
  5. State specifically what you seek in the way of help.
  6. Ask others how you may assist them.
  7. After a quality conversation, request a follow-up appointment.
  8. Keep all promises made including follow-up.
  9. Celebrate success.
