Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:
Are You Grooming Leadership Traits?
Early in our careers, we want to be grooming leadership traits. But few of us have an idea of what we need to do to earn the title of being a leader.
There are many leadership models. It is our job to decide which works best for each of us. Underlying the question of which type we want to be is, how do we want others to remember us? It is always best to work backward from our long-term vision as we set goals to achieve it.
I was always bewildered why people would give the instruction, ‘you should do…’ We each know best where our unique passion and strengths lie, or how to put our talent to use. Sometimes my ideas are out of the ballpark and are soon mocked. Being strong-willed and motivated, I continue down the path I desire.
Months or years may pass until we realize the significance of our unique path. And it takes longer for many of us to experience our journey working to our satisfaction. It’s possible being stubborn is one aspect of grooming leadership traits. However, I find that stubbornness is to embrace not just one task but a broad scope for what is to be.
“Underlying the road to leadership is in maintaining the motivation and the mindset never to give up.
Some of my leadership traits include honesty, admission of errors, and consistency in all that I do. Long ago, I learned that our unique personal brand and company branding are dependent upon our integrity. Prospects and clients need to know that they can depend upon and trust us before making a purchase or investing with us.
Being a top sales producer feels good, but it’s only a fleeting moment in time. The same applies to all the other honors we may earn. I can choose to endlessly boast about the recognition as many do. But, an inflated ego turns off many, only to see the spotlight quickly dim.
I found the better approach to grooming leadership traits is to teach and encourage others. The idea is the opposite of what most of us initially believe to be true. One key element is we are to model what we say. The idea is to motivate and inspire others to achieve their best version of themselves. However, to do so, we are to unconditionally continue moving forward to be the best we can be.
“The pursuit of doing our best gives us insights to help others do the same.
Occasionally, a varying type of pain is a part of the process. My stubbornness trait is a gift by helping me continue on my unique path. On another level, I sometimes find myself all alone. At times the situation does get me down. I then question what am I doing? Worse, the problematic question becomes, ‘should I quit?’ At that very moment, I give myself a pep talk saying, ‘you will find the way!’
The fortunate ones will eventually find one and then several like-minded people committed to stand by us, and lend their support.
Accordingly, the following lyrics by Ben E. King, ‘Stand by Me,’ are included in Today’s post:
Stand by Me
Ben E. King
When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No, I won’t be afraid
Oh, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me.
You may wonder how the lyrics, Stand by Me, apply to leadership.
Experience shows us that on occasion, we and others do the following:
- Go down a path that severely affects what is working.
- Encourage action on something not previously tested
- Promote people on personality rather than talent
- Hire the wrong people who bring down employee morale
However, by doing the following before any of the above occurs:
- Establish an admired standard of ethics
- Provide constant support along the way
- Build credibility and trust among peers and employees
– at least a few peers will stand by me, and you. Everyone makes errors. Those willing to accept the fact will be there to support each of us. What matters most in grooming leadership skills is in caring and helping others. The skillset in which we excel and enjoy can benefit many.
Learn, Teach, and Learn More
I began my service with teaching job seekers how to sell themselves on interviews. The time freely spent was nothing compared to the incredible notes I received. It was heartwarming to know that I can help people interview well and secure the job they desire. The service continues on social platforms and in specialty programs.
Building A Robust Audience Is On The Path To Leadership
The better social media strategy embraces successful selling skills. Being social gives way to expanding our service to others. For example, when a profile on LinkedIn catches my attention, I will reach out to the person and ask for a short conversation.
Many times, the initial conversation will produce immediate ideas and new introductions. Accordingly, upon an introduction to the organization, Unleash Today, I was deeply moved and impressed.
An Excellent Example For Grooming Leadership Traits
Sarah and Kate are two successful millennials who grew up thinking diligence, perfectionism, and hard work would lead to a successful professional life. It was painful for them to realize many years later that different rules apply in the workplace, as hard work does not automatically translate into recognition. It was just as hard to understand that women are still assessed differently due to prevailing gender biases in business and society.
Sarah and Kate strive to encourage and support ambitious women to reach their full potential and Unleash Today. They help women acquire the recognition they deserve by overcoming societal gender bias. They also challenge narrowly defined expectations of how women should act, behave, and look in the workplace. Together, with various guest experts, they have written the upcoming book, ‘Unleash Today.’ It is due to be published in Autumn 2020.
You will read personal stories and lessons learned on how to:
- Develop confidence
- Create a great first impression
- Aim for excellence rather than trying to be perfect
- As an ambitious woman, how to continue growing and networking across all industries.
