Unique thought typically undergoes turbulent times, as some believe they know everything, while others are envious and afraid that you may surpass them with your work and findings. It is up to the individual to be steadfast in attaining their goals and achievements far beyond the current day.
The downside to being ‘different’ is that gaining attention plus traction is not for those who only work alone. Seeking out the right people and companies whose ideals and priorities match yours can ultimately empower the more important endeavors as we view them. Know that the same is true for immense projects as well as smaller individual tracks. Ultimately, being different defines your brand and empowers growth.

Examine Each Strategy
Success requires that we admit to what is not properly working currently, as it may be possible to fix; otherwise, it’s vital to replace the strategy with another. Conversations with trustworthy friends help substantially in moving forward. The issue is, however, most people do not have enough personal connections to help them progress with their endeavors; hence, the popularity of social media has increased substantially over time. The qualifying step is to select the appropriate social website for what we want to accomplish and with whom we wish to connect.
Connections Occasionally Become Friends
Once we acknowledge the type of connections we desire, the easier it becomes to seek out possibilities and have enlightening conversations or an exchange of messaging to realize whether it’s a good fit. Initially, I was surprised by the people reaching out to connect with me, and similar to selling, I would ask ‘What caught your interest?’ Over time, as confidence built, I would be the one to reach out and relay upfront what caught my attention to ask permission to officially connect with the individual.
It’s important to recognize that some connections are merely requested to grow one’s number of followers, which is fine, but others are more serious and seek ways to potentially collaborate. The collaborative effect makes a tremendous difference in growing business possibilities, audience size, and attracting promotional activities.
Research Branding Possibilities
Experimenting works to a good degree for realizing which efforts work best for the individual. However, it’s wise to observe and read posts of those who already have large followings to realize perhaps a better path forward. There is always room for improvement, and we do well by committing to ongoing learning. Branding possibilities, from my perspective, include learning better strategies for utilizing a platform to increase connections, followers, and opportunities.
Over time, LinkedIn became my favorite platform due to the global audience of professionals in a wide array of businesses. It took me a long time to realize the better effort necessary to grow my connections and audience. Collaborative activities paved the way for growth on multiple levels, over several years. It was a slow and steady effort to ultimately embrace the effectiveness of the platform when the better strategic elements are in place.

To my surprise, Jeb Blount and Brynne Tillman published their book, The LinkedIn Edge, available on Amazon. Upon opening the book to read the Table of Contents, I immediately thought, ‘If only this book were available when I got started! Being different, whether others believe that is bad or good, is what differentiates one from the crowded playing field. But it is critical to also embrace the strategies that complement your brand to enhance it and build a robust audience.
