Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

During the summer months, it is easy to fall into the trap of being relaxed enough to let details slip through the cracks. As Fall approaches, however, it is time to pay strict attention so that we may end the year on a high note.

Salespeople are in need of making and exceeding quota. Employees need to document their good work in the past and ideas for the future in anticipation of their annual reviews. And seemingly, entrepreneurs work around the clock to ensure their ideas evolve in the best way possible. The processes and details spelled out are to contribute to clear and concise communication, and are essential for almost ensured success.

My Story

All of my experiences have taught me that it’s essential to be on top of follow-up all through the year. Pressure intensifies in corporate sales with management breathing down your neck. To keep a job, one has to be on top of the details or a new job will be next on the agenda. And last but not least, entrepreneurs need to be diligent on their own behalf or clients will quickly fade away.

So I’ve learned to make it a habit to review where I am currently and where I wish to be during the last days of summer. The exercise is due to enjoying the more relaxed days and the need to regain sharp focus on what lays ahead in the coming months. And then my list begins to build as I capture all the tasks that need to be taken care of before September’s arrival.

The bad news is that social media complicated the issue due to our public profiles being seen by the world and seemingly posted everywhere. I took the time to figure out which platforms were in need of updates.

My Process

* Delete old posts
* Update profiles
* Complete promised tasks
* Eliminate time-wasting projects
* Delete projects not proving to be fruitful
* Review new offers to find those best aligned
* Mentally place gold stars next to the more exciting ideas
* Do preliminary research regarding potential new strategies
* Revamp how I work.

All of the above helps me to be better organized for the hectic months ahead. And with the improvements in place, I find an increase in energy and enthusiasm for what the future may bring.

Your Story

The time is now to prepare for the next four months and finish the year with a celebration. Should you not be certain where to begin, think about what you would most like to achieve by the end of December.

Tasks for You:
  • List your biggest possible achievement for year-end.
  • Add everything associated with the big achievement.
  • List steps to be put in place for each component.
  • Add any help you may need, and where it may be found.
  • Include additional learning that may be in order.
  • Prioritize everything on your list.
  • Commit to hours per day to ensure everything is complete in a timely fashion.
Journal Success

Entrepreneurs typically keep a record of some sort as to what works best. This could be in the form of cryptic notes, written documents and more formal types of communication. The outcome is to include teaching others how to accomplish more by sharing the better strategies. Employees are more inclined to make mental notes, but in the event, an opportunity arises to be of service, take official notes to pass along.

The daily commitment to your task list almost ensures success by the end of the year. As an employee, capture the highlights of what contributed to your success in story-form. Practice telling the story to yourself in front of a mirror. As you become comfortable sharing the story with a smile on your face, you will be in good shape to do the same in front of your Manager on the day of your annual review.

As you practice, add emotion to your voice and keep these three tips in mind:

1. Begin with concern in your voice
2. Include a short summary about a team effort if one occurred
3. End the story on a high note with excitement in your voice

The practice gives rise to confidence and the motivation to request a satisfactory salary increase. Your story told well with a smile on your face, and the guts to ask for a raise, will usually produce the desired answer.

Tomorrow is a blank canvas, paint your future today.

Before this year officially ends, begin contemplating what it is you wish to achieve next year and into the future. Begin designing your future success today!

Sales Tips

1. Be comfortable only with achievements made to date.
2. Get out of your comfort zone to learn and achieve more.
3. Develop your personal brand and self-confidence.
4. Practice making small requests of friends and peers (such as eating out) as practice.
5. As confidence builds with small requests prepare to ask for a raise in salary.
6. Make a habit of maintaining a list of long-term and short-term goals.
7. Each day, add to and subtract from tasks on your list to avoid lost time trying to recall what comes next.
8. Before the year completes, consider your long term vision.
9. Put a flexible plan of action into place to achieve your vision.
10. Celebrate Success!
