In our busy world many people would do well to slow down on occasion to consider what was stated, their response, and how to stand up and move forward. Or if initiating a conversation to reflect on how it may come across. The third scenario is that of the occasion when one is dismissed as being less important.
All perspectives communication are to be examined before moving forward. It does not mean one should sound halting or uncertain. Instead, the response is to be concise and clearly understood.
Always focus on the best outcome so that everyone has a vivid picture and may participate in the win.
My Story
Several types of meetings took place in the past five days that could have put me in a less favorable light. Follow-up action on my end was required. The more important communication was to set a record straight due to an erroneous assumption made. It’s always best to stand up and move forward so that you know in your heart you did your best.
Perspective and Possibility
Once accustomed to exploring multiple possibilities, it will be easy to apply the same to advancing one’s career or speaking with clientele. The more open you can be to possibility and expressing what might be, the more likely you will be to be the one hired or selected as the service provider as people see you stand up and move forward. The actions become a part of your brand and branding effort, and how others come to identify you.

Consider these questions in order to perform at your best:
- How do you rate on an “open to new perspective” scale?
- Do you routinely ask others for their opinions and ideas?
- When others express opinions and ideas, do you discard them or listen carefully?
Sometimes the expressed ideas of others can knock us off our game. Here are a few questions to ask that will produce an improved outcome:
- Why do you believe that?
- What has been your experience?
- How do you see the solution?
Miscommunication: Stand Up and Move Forward
On occasion someone will jump into a situation without recognizing all the reasons it occurred. That person may come across almost as a bully. In this instance, it is best to take partial responsibility. But also let it be known that other factors and/or people were involved. Relay the entire scenario in a diplomatic tone. An apology should be forthcoming with a willingness for all parties to stand up and move forward.
