Occasionally, we may ask ourselves if we are ‘brain dead,’ feeling perplexed by what is to come next to advance our career or business goals. Admittedly, I knew I was at a new phase but was uncertain about the next direction. The good news is that with more time available, I could accept requests for conversations and exchange messages, all of which are leading to new ideas for business growth.

The Complementary Approach

One of the exciting elements within the conversations is that I am meeting more people with similar ideals due to past experiences prompting forward thinking. The exchange opened the door to possibilities ahead that once again put an element of excitement into the routine of daily effort. Familiarity with the other person and how they work, with admiration included, becomes the time to make appropriate introductions, helping each other further increase business.

With all the above ideals said, nothing remains perfect, and an occasional upset may occur. It’s best to politely question the other person’s opinion when we realize a disagreement. Not doing so may unintentionally harm our business. Diplomatic questions are the best route for resolving disputes and clarifying to continue a steady footing.

  • ‘I don’t understand your statement or action; please clarify the purpose for what you are trying to achieve.’
  • ‘Do you see a more compatible way for us to move forward together?’
  • ‘Will you consider this idea instead?’

Change Is Our Constant

A successful career requires being flexible and adaptable to new ideas. Before agreeing to work together, it’s critical to ensure the other person or party is flexible like you. Moreover, all parties must dedicate themselves to learning to surpass unforeseen obstacles and enjoy what may be in store.

When someone whose work you admire asks to connect for a conversation, make it a habit to fit it into your schedule. We never know where the discussion may lead; surprisingly, it may present the opportunity we’ve been seeking. Working with others of a similar mindset will open doors for growth and bring about possibilities never imagined.
