Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

How to Empower Your Communications

Embracing the art of communication is critical for a successful career or business. Common sense tells us, if we don’t know what’s on the other person’s mind, it will be challenging to address it properly; accordingly, it is likely that business will be lost.

Today’s experience suggests our blog topic, how to empower your communications. Although we may see our insights and offerings as critical for others to partake, it won’t come across as such if we don’t allow them to express their thoughts first. By doing so, we can more adeptly build a case as to why the person or company is to seriously consider working with us and not walk away.

Empower Your Communications

A long-awaited meeting finally arrived. My curiosity was high, and I looked forward to a conversational exchange to see how we may benefit our audiences for everyone to feel a win. Upon watching the video presentation, I was highly impressed by the company’s accomplishments globally. At the thirty-minute mark, I heard that our conversation would begin soon, but the word ‘soon’ needed clarification. At close to the hour mark, I ended the video as it became very repetitive, and the conversation was still unattainable. I quickly reached out to the person arranging the meeting to request a live meeting, but a response is still amiss.

The Personal Touch

It shouldn’t be a surprise that no matter to whom we reach out, the other person or team wants to have their experience and insights heard, their stories shared and have a mutual Q&A between all parties for a fruitful conversation. It’s the only way to encourage underlying details to come out into the open that indicate how to proceed in the most proficient manner.

Moreover, when we conduct business in a professional-friendly manner, private details typically kept secret among staff and corporate tend to be shared providing greater insights for a more robust program.

Dominance

Some people are unusually talented and deserve to have their experience told in-depth. However, the better approach is not to monopolize a large amount of time, but before each new topic is about to present, ask for questions or input before proceeding. It’s likely a segment will register with the person or people listening to share similar stories or they may have questions needing answers. Most people are not ready to listen entirely during a long-winded presentation.

Present Content as Hors D’oeuvres

Most people enjoy tasty bites of food. Similarly, it’s easier to digest smaller bites of information to savor in terms of careful consideration. Both applicable input and questions arise to have a more in-depth conversation. In this manner, creative ideas often arise for further discussion and generally a more robust plan moving forward.

When we present in segments, we enable and promote the other party to ask questions plus confirm that we are on the same page. The professionalism encourages a greater likelihood for conducting business upon moving forward.

The Closing Context

I was never a fan of the term, ‘close the sale,’ because I’m one who want to keep future doors of business ‘Open.’ However, toward the end of a fruitful conversation, it’s best to ask if the other party has additional questions or input to ensure nothing is left unanswered. Next, it’s critical to inquire what the other party may need (including time) to put everything in order to advance to the next stage.

After everything appears to be in good order comes the time to ask, ‘When would you like to get started?’ You can see there is no ‘pushy behavior’ involved. When we give the reigns to the other party to make the decision, stress is alleviated and business advances to the next level far more frequently.

Conclusion: How to Empower Your Communications

Impressive communications have nothing to do with one’s vocabulary or the ‘gift of gab.’ Instead, it’s about bringing in your audience, whether an individual or a team to listen attentively to your words to then raise questions as you pause for input. A professionally friendly conversation on all levels is the chord that strikes a note of interest. The mutual input encourages the decision for working together today and into the future – defining the Smooth Sale.
