Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  Do You Look Up Or Is Your Perspective Straight Forward?

We have a tendency to admire those who hold experience different than ours. In particular, those who hold the insights of what we need to know. The difficulty with this is that those people are then placed on a higher plateau than the way we see ourselves.

The problem with putting others on a higher level is that we minimize our own expertise. This may be heard in our voice and in our body language and facial expressions. Accordingly, others will begin to see us on a lower level. The entire process becomes a downward spiral eliminating opportunity that might have been.

Change your mindset to change actions and improve results

My Story

When I first met “Susan”, I highly admired her marketing and entrepreneurial expertise. New to business, I was in awe of what she had in place. To my delight, she wanted to remain in touch. Our ten year mark hit, and we once again reconnected. It became evident that we are equals with varying experience.

Today’s meeting provided another example. I admire George’s consulting prowess around the globe while he admires my accomplishments as an author and speaker. In the process of talking, we each volunteered introductions.

The Noted Takeaway

We each undergo learning, implementation, and progress at different times. Accordingly, we reach high points at different times.   By treating everyone as an equal, you become far more likely to develop increased opportunities.

Your Story: Do You Look Up Or Is Your Perspective Straight Forward?

Consider the people you hold in high esteem.

  • Do these people ever offer to help you?
  • Are these people speaking down to you?
  • Do you see possibility of working together or collaborating on a project?

And then think about the people you ask to connect with online.

  • Are you connecting solely with people at about the same level as you?
  • Are you hesitant to ask to connect with people clearly more experienced?
  • How do you believe things might change if you were to change your thought process that we are all equal?

Change of Mindset

By viewing everyone as equals, you will be far more likely to have a true give and take of new ideas and opportunity. Your communication and energy give indication you are ready to move forward. In turn, you positively influence acceptance of your words and ideas. Accordingly, your project pipeline will greatly improve.

The same holds true for seeking work and advancing your career.   By speaking with confidence, not arrogance, more hiring managers and upper level executives will be inclined to make an offer normally not in your scope.

Instead of looking up, maintain a straight-forward perspective to enjoy improved results.
