Each new year brings about an opportunity to learn more and potentially change how we perform. Perfection rarely exists, technological updates are constant, and ongoing experiences can have our minds spinning and wondering, ‘How am I to keep up – is it time to quit?’ Unless one is financially comfortable for their remaining years and has ideas for future endeavors that bring a smile to one’s face, it’s best to consider how to ‘Open and close doors for growth in the New Year.

New Year – New Vision

Many people have lost their jobs this year due to AI, Robotics, company reorganizations, and ill will, too. The latest trend is to secure a contract job that may last months rather than a typical ongoing career job. However, on the positive side, the hourly rate is a good deal higher than being on a salary. However, it’s vital to ensure insurance of every type is available, either through the company or on the personal end, to prevent a financial catastrophe.

Long ago, time machines were a hot topic; today, it’s AI, Robotics, and extra-terrestrials. None of it would have been imaginable a decade earlier, but the time has arrived to give each due consideration of how they may open or close doors in our career quest. Unless proper research is done, it makes little sense to downplay an idea; ‘Assumptions’ can quickly close doors.

Customer Care Will Always Be Critical

It’s likely safe to say we have all been dismissed by representatives upon expressing a complaint and describing the issue. This scenario is the wrong way to be critical. The better approach is to keep asking the person presenting the problem questions until the whole picture is evident. Only then can a comprehensive solution be put in place to ensure ongoing business.

Build Genuine Relationships

For example, as a long-term client, I was astounded by the amount one company said is due in the New Year; the amount was incomprehensible and not doable. I called customer care to ask why the fees increased so dramatically. Upon inspection, the representative assured me it was an error. What happened was that instead of stating the fee is annual, the misstatement said it is monthly. The representative fixed the error within a few minutes and assured me that this is the right company to work with, as they encourage an open-door policy.

Close Unacceptable Doors

Upon hearing requests by company leadership that do not sound ‘above board,’ deny them and figure out the next steps and the best timing to leave.  Should a collaborative partner make a questionable statement or request, dig deep to understand the whole meaning to decide whether it’s time to part ways.

The one standout trait we must each possess is to be trustworthy and, next, reliable. Close the doors for those who do not adhere to the same principle. Moreover, it’s vital to believe in ourselves upfront, and next, find those we trust for a rewarding life ahead.

Keep in mind that sometimes the seemingly worst will happen, leaving us to ask, ‘Why me?’  But when we take the time to uncover all the contributing factors, their combined meaning, and how they led to our outcome, it can appear miraculous.
