Why Patience Provides Greater Insight for Robust Results

Life is an art form, but only if we allow it to be. Rather than merely reacting, we can move gracefully with the ebb and flow found in our lives. For some of us this prevents impatience.

The main problem is many of us become frustrated that reward does not come sooner. We get upset when we are misunderstood. Yet patience reveals lessons for all of this. The reward is in learning those lessons well. In so doing, we are able to surge ahead without looking back.

Neither a career shift nor entrepreneurship is for the impatient

My Story

Whether it was genetic or taught to me, I was unusually impatient growing up. In fact, one person close to me said I was the most impatient person they ever met. To some degree it worked in my favor in that I was continually seeking out best routes to accomplish my goals. But then maturity set in.

My business is an entirely different story. Growth has been a very long journey over numerous years. It began with a long list of “must-do’s” according to those in the know.

I was advised that I had to:

  • Create a website
  • Write a book
  • Speak on stage
  • Create products and services
  • Create a YouTube channel
  • Attend network events
  • Be a vendor
  • Join groups
  • Get a headstart on social media
  • Write a blog
  • Modernize the website
  • Monetize the blog
  • Create a community…

Ironically and truthfully, there is nothing quick about any of the above. It was difficult at first. Just to get started, I had to learn about marketing strategy and then brand development. Over time, I grew into asking many questions upon being advised. The first question always began with, “Why?”

Once the argument in favor was sound, I delved in to learn what I could. Business became a labor of love. The last piece was to connect all of the individual dots. Nothing works quite as well by itself as it does when in unison with other segments. This is very similar to years ago when sales and marketing teams refused to speak to one another. But for those who combine forces, the results are superior.

As you can see, impatience would have worked against all that has been accomplished over the years.

How would you rate yourself on the patience scale? To find success, it’s necessary to delve into many aspects of the one thing you are trying to accomplish. Merely trying to distinguish yourself in a crowded field requires introspection and education. And then comes the fun of experimenting with trial and error.

Should you have a deep desire to not only get to the next level but far beyond, consider the following:

  • Educational need
  • Strategic implementation
  • Prioritization of your list

These bullet points become your framework for goals and milestones. But this will only work if you have full commitment in the effort to pursue each and every day. Some days only require you to give serious thought to your next steps. The following days are the ones requiring the follow-up. It is the persistent follow-up that makes an enormous difference in your outcome.

Sales Tips:

  1. Recognize your feet are on solid ground
  2. Breathe deeply
  3. Prioritize projects as well as your time
  4. Guestimate your timeline for completing an important project
  5. Set milestones and goals for completing the project within the timeframe
  6. Take care of interruptions as quickly as possible
  7. Have a safety net for making up time such as one evening
  8. Associate with people a few steps ahead of you to stay motivated
  9. Collaborate along your journey to incorporate new ideas
  10. As new ideas take hold, refine your plan and leverage
