Attract the Right Job or Clientele: Are You Sinking When It Comes to Follow-up?
Personal experiences seem to be the best teachers for what not to do as well as what to implement in our own style. The level of customer care from the moment of contact all the way through the entire sales cycle and after is what will determine your success. The same applies to career advancement and follow up with those who interview you.
It’s impossible to make a sale without follow-up.
My Story
Upon moving into our residence, we were in need of a couple of services. One such service had me shaking my head.
I was late to the meeting but my husband had everything in control. Except for the fact he is trained in IT not sales. Taking him aside, I whispered “how much?” He hadn’t been given any figure. I stepped next to “Craig” the representative to ask him the same question. Craig’s face turned beet red. He then provided an astronomical figure.
My reply was that our budget was for half that. Craig closed his computer and said since summer was arriving, there should be a sale soon. Meanwhile he would speak with management and get back to us the next week. That was the last we heard from Craig.
The Aftermath:
- A month later, the company advertised a new sale with installation included
- Craig was called but his voicemail box was full
- I called the company due to the value now seen but no one called us back
The company that employs Craig should have invested in training prior to letting him go in the field. There was no doubt in my mind that this employee will be short-term. In the end, it’s the company that suffers from not grooming representatives to be well versed in sales and customer care. Turnover costs much more than investment in proper development of employees. Even worse for this company is that non-responsiveness seems to be the norm.
Your Story
If you are an employer, ask employees for feedback on the type of training they believe they need. Meanwhile, examine everything you have implemented to date. Without the right training much business is being lost without your knowing it.
Should you be an employee or an entrepreneur, it is your business to seek out the training you most need. Otherwise your career or business will be short-lived. No one has time to put up with lack of intelligent conversation or proper delivery of services.
At all employee meetings ask for feedback
- Investigate the latest training on the market
- Read the pearls of wisdom regarding the latest that may be found on social media
- As an employee be fearless in meetings to make suggestions
Sales Tips:
- Upon first meeting a prospective client ask for their budget
- Explain what you may and may not provide within that budget
- Ask if what you are able to provide will suffice; if not is other money available
- Provide a variety of examples of what may be provided
- Ask for preferences after all are presented
- Confirm the monetary investment and delivery timeline
- Ask for agreement that everything meets expectations
- Should an issue arise, confirm a date to deliver the answer, and be certain to deliver it.
- Again ask for agreement and if everything is on track for service delivery.
- Check in after everything is complete for level of satisfaction.
