SMS Marketing Best Practices for the Most Efficient Campaign
by Andrew Lisa

SMS marketing is a direct, intimate route to new business. It’s more efficient, less expensive and requires far less technical prowess than other forms of new-media marketing like apps and even email. Text messaging has endured for more than two decades – and for good reason. Just make sure your sales technique matches your medium.

SMS marketing is personal, direct and cheap.

As discussed in “Best Practices for Mass SMS Campaigns,” always ask for permission to send messages. This can be accomplished by asking potential customers if they’d like to receive offers and updates, or by asking them to text a certain word or message to begin receiving these updates.

Not only do recipients have to give you permission to include them in your SMS campaign, but they should always be given a way to opt out in the future, if they choose. The “unsubscribe” option must be prominently displayed and the process to bail out must not be overly involved. Failing to take either of these measures is bad for business in two ways. First, you’re breaking the law. But perhaps more importantly, you run the risk of coming off as an unscrupulous spammer.

Also, make sure to introduce yourself or your company right off the bat. SMS marketing is not the time to enter in with a vague teaser, such as “Tired of feeling tired?” or “Sick of spending too much for harmonica sheet music?” Also, offer something of value, create a sense of urgency and be specific. This is a great chance to use a coupon code that gives a discount for a specific range of products or services during a specific window of time.

Boost sales with a sound SMS marketing principles.

If your sales technique is well planned and well researched, SMS marketing is a cost-effective route directly to your customers. It’s no secret that people are glued to their phones more and more every year. They rely on their phones; it makes sense for you to rely on SMS marketing.
