In order to get the right results, the right plan for audience reach includes being successful in communicating with all generations. It is those who are observant of change that do the best. As some generations mature while other come into their own, flexibility becomes a necessity. Each has their own way of conducting business. By becoming familiar with their practices, you are then able to speak on a welcomed level.  This will empower all endeavors from business to getting hired.

Attracting larger audiences is accomplished when you are skilled at speaking to multiple generations from around the world.

My Story

Over time, I became very comfortable speaking with those included in my generation as well as those of my children’s generation. The millennial generation is now coming into their own, and soon the next will come along. Social media provides each of us with a way to be relevant and attract interest from the younger set.

One of the stark differences between those over 35 years and those younger is the move away from intense competition. For the younger set, the opposite is true. The companies that perform best have an open work environment encouraging dialogue among departments.  Likewise, as entrepreneurs, it is not enough to just focus on sales. We instead need to focus on the entire 360 degree approach for business development.

Are you purposefully reading up on the priorities of the younger and older generations? A good indicator is your current clientele. Are they all your age or is there a wide variation?   If you don’t have a lot of time to devote, Twitter is a great way to quickly gain insight. People post articles most important to them, and very quickly you will make the connection of the generations involved.

  • Is there room to improve working with all age groups?
  • What steps do you need to implement?
  • Do you believe the effort will improve your overall results?

Take the challenge to give communicating on all levels a try. Most importantly, see what you might learn from those new to your inner circle.
