In an ideal world, every sale would be a breeze. A happy client would drop into your lap and need little in the way of persuasion to adopt your service or buy your product. But as anyone who has worked in sales can tell you—that’s not how it happens. Sales are often very hard work. The disappointments can quickly pile up, as can the forceful rejections.
One thing you can do, however, is to learn how to counteract those hard-to-please customers. They’re not impossible; you just have to figure out what they need and how to give it to them. That doesn’t mean the product or service that they need—it means understanding where your potential client is coming from. And they often need simply to be listened to.
