Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  How to Use Mishaps As Opportunity

The norm for most people is to become very frustrated over mishaps no matter who was at fault. Over the years, I learned from wise people to welcome these incidents as signs that it’s time to take a mental break. Walk away, by yourself for your very own mental walk into the woods.

View mishaps as a gift in disguise to allow guidance for a new direction

My Story

Yesterday was “one of those days”. It would have been easy to get myself into a bad mood but instead, I laughed. The story actually begins with two very good friends.

One is temporarily on pain medication. As I confirmed the time to catch up by phone, she claimed that the medicine caused her to mistakenly make a date that she couldn’t possibly keep. Our call was cancelled. Friend number two is located half-way around the world. I was so looking forward to catching up with her, too. But she never put our call on the calendar and so double-booked with a client.

Realization to Action

The alarm sounded that it was time for a mental break. Relaxed, I silently reviewed and prioritized the more important projects to be completed. Motivation kicked in to take action! Instead of feeling sorry for myself.  I was excited to recognize I could complete what had been sitting in front of me.

Gift of Time

The gift of time had been handed to me by my two very good friends. With determination, the project was completed and a sigh of relief could be heard.

Your Story

Many people give themselves a pity party when things don’t work out. It drags them down and slows their progress to a screeching halt. How you handle forgotten appointments and mishaps is a reflection on your personal brand. Attitude demonstrates the care you hold for others plus the determination you hold within to continue achieving your goals.

As a job seeker, you may find on occasion the interviewing manager will forget your appointment.  Call back the next day to inquire if everything is okay.  Doing so will put you in the leadership position for conducting the newly set interview appointment.

Do You:

  • Recognize missed appointments provide the extra time you originally wished you had?
  • Get on the ball to pursue those projects left on the back burner?
  • Always have a pipeline filled with goals and milestones to be achieved?

By having a full pipeline for your own projects, just as you would fill a pipeline with client possibility, you will never be at a loss for what to do next. This activity will keep you on track and ahead of the curve for developing business.

Sales Tips:
  1. Exchange lost opportunity for new opportunity
  2. Maximize time however you may
  3. Maintain a continuous goal and milestone document to make the most of every day
  4. Be forgiving for the good people to forgive you when errors are on your end
  5. Willingly reset missed appointments
  6. Be kind and willing to unravel issues that arise
  7. After you believe issues are resolved, inquire as to satisfaction with the outcome
  8. In your quiet time, search inward for new ideas to be pursued
  9. When friends reconvene suggest your new ideas to see which take off.
  10. In the end, you will see the downtime as a gift in disguise that leads you to the Smooth Sale!
