‘Attract the Right Job or Clientele:
What Are You Thinking?
Stories are abundant about the stress we encounter that has us asking, ‘what are you thinking?’ Unwanted experiences occur in the workplace, working remotely, and in entrepreneurial environments. When things go awry, no matter the type, lost revenue and valuable time are at stake. It’s necessary to grasp the situation quickly to fix it and move on. It’s best to recognize that when we allow ourselves to get buried in feeling sorry for ourselves, the time loss negatively impacts the bottom line.
Redirecting our thought and behaviors toward specific goals will help alleviate the negative and keep us going for the good. On these occasions, it’s best to take time out to ask ourselves, ‘what are you thinking?’ and then turn the answer into something more positive.
Achieving success requires a positive mindset. ‘Moving forward requires positive though
My Story
Incidents occur frequently, and it’s part of our work life. This week, tech issues held my progress back as the frustration set in because work depended on the fix. Admittedly, I need to take my advice and not let these types of scenarios get me down in the future.
Although I would never root for another to experience a stressful situation, three friends revealed their stories to me that also occurred within the same timeframe. It is almost as if something unique is in the air, testing our resilience simultaneously.
One friend shared an unpleasant work story indicating it’s time for a new job. Passing advice given to me, I suggested that she arrange several interviews within a short timeframe to compare the offers before quitting. But one more suggestion for the current day is to attempt to compare the cultural environment at work, too, to know if it will feel inclusive or not.
A second friend gave a talk to thunderous applause, yet almost no one spoke to her afterward. Meanwhile, another friend had over one hundred people registered for her in-person event, yet hardly anyone showed up. You could say the time to prepare for both occasions plus the expense involved was astronomical compared to the results.
Both women are highly accomplished businesswomen but were taken aback by their outcomes. Independently, they are regrouping their work to continue forth in their journey, providing excellent examples for us all.
Like learning to adapt to a positive mindset to earn better results, it’s best if each of us adopts a similar approach to our exaggerated dire outcomes. Feeling sorry for ourselves never helps and only limits progress. As upsetting as these scenarios sound, the three of us in varying locations are at least in a safe environment. That accounts for far more than the news we continue to hear. Upon acknowledging our safety, we are to ask ourselves, ‘what are you thinking?’ to realize that we have the power to regain our strength and move forward. Feeling sorry for ourselves puts us in the place of being the enemy of our progress. Once the realization arrives, we can then step up and regain our motivation to move forward.
Your Story
We read so much about toxic work cultures that the situation may be affecting you, too. If you are in management, consider the question, ‘what are you thinking?’ seriously. Examine how it may be affecting your employees. You may want to dive into a serious conversation collectively or privately with each to learn about their experiences and insights. Doing so is the sure way to improve the work environment you provide. More importantly, it’s the only way to engage your employees. At stake is employment for the longer term that helps you avoid negatively impacting the bottom line.
Everyone believes upfront that the entrepreneurial lifestyle is ideal. Not having experience with what is at stake limits reality. Entrepreneurs are subject to legal matters, covering all expenses and weighing new technology against the validity of the learning curve and cost. Last is the primary concern revolving around the revenue.
We all frequently hear that a positive mindset helps to propel us forward. It’s essential to regain focus and embrace the thought continually. In the middle of a situation, some people may think it strange you put a dilemma seemingly aside to ask, what are you thinking? But as long as you know that the solution coincides with the fix plus moving forward, your strategy is more likely to work out well.
In conclusion, we should accept that not everything will work to our expectations. Surprises arrive after the fact as we realize it is for the best that the first attempt did not move forward as planned. Typically, something better lies ahead of us, and it’s our job to continue advancing toward it to achieve new heights. As we review our progress at the end of each day, it always helps to recognize how fortunate we are.
‘End each day with a smile to begin tomorrow anew.

Your Story: Diplomatic Responses to Annoyances
Think back to previous times when misunderstandings arose and your reaction to them. Are you proud of handling the miscommunications, or is there room for improvement? Should your answer be the latter option, take time to review how you might perform differently in the future.
Now consider mishaps in the workplace, among peers and friends, and whether you habitually respond similarly in all cases. Should angry responses be among the things that need to change, consider taking a public speaking class. The instruction teaches the better delivery of talks, but it also includes how to compose oneself. With practice, the techniques carry over to all types of communications when we actively want to change our delivery style.
Most of all, it’s best to focus on your purpose and what you want to achieve ultimately. Acknowledge your ultimate goal daily, which should help avoid future mishaps in communications. And keep in mind that when something becomes uncomfortable, the best thing to do is gracefully part ways. The better tactic is to reveal that you don’t believe your goals align well, and it will be in everyone’s best interest to part ways.
The more important benefit to removing yourself from an uncomfortable situation is that you become in tune with what you do want. You then realize the people to welcome into your network. Soon collaborative efforts pick up, and opportunities arise that would otherwise never occur. When passion and purpose are at the heart of your work, you will enjoy the journey.
