You Are Fired! Moving from Funny to Stressful

A while back, a television show called ‘The Apprentice’ repeatedly told contestants, ‘You are fired!’ At the time, it was part of the fun watching the show, but in real life, it is anything but funny. Surprises of all types, including sound, fixable, and undesirable, have many rethinking the pronouncement, ‘You are fired!

We are all experiencing turmoil regarding the work environment. Many issues are arising that are at the juncture of needing to be resolved. Some of the dilemmas include:

  • Commute to work or find a new job
  • New leadership at the helm appears to be taking the opposite approach.
  • Discussion vs. certifiable action to make a difference regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Hitting a career wall indicating it’s time to take control of your career
  • Realizing it’s now or never to take the necessary actions to redirect your business or career to grow.

My Story

In many instances, nothing seems to change except for technology. Many possess the mindset of gloom and doom. Hoping and wishing, or thinking it’s no use,’ never solves anything. But to experience change, the first thing to make it happen is to change our attitude to help enable the revisions we want.

Possibilities are limitless when we allow them to materialize.

You Are Fired! Mental and Financial Stability

The worst scenario is getting fired unexpectedly. The act can affect our mental stability and induce continual negative self-talk. Accordingly, the fear of getting hired for a new job makes interviewing seem as if it is almost an impossible task. Those who have been employees for a long time can collect unemployment insurance; however, short-term employees will not qualify and encounter excess stress. Should any circumstance get in our way, it is always best to speak with trusted peers and, when necessary, seek professional help.

With determination and perseverance, we eventually find the people and organizations that will and desire to support us. It is the juncture where hope regains strength motivating us to entirely focus on achieving all that was previously a dream plus much more. The bonus is adding a segment to the business plan to benefit communities. Our ‘payback’ is in gaining appreciation, support, and the ability to reach a broader audience.

Taking Control

Our success belongs to us individually. We can allow others to hold us back, convince us we aren’t smart enough to advance, and then give up trying. Or, we can toughen up, commit to what we want to achieve, and create our unique plan. Coaches advise clients to create a vision board for motivation as they see it daily, hopefully multiple times per day. And for others, it is easier to remind oneself morning, noon, and night, what it is we want to accomplish in our lifetime to keep the motivation ongoing.

Finding a collaborative group helps us find support and encouragement and embrace new ideas together. It is the instigator for each of us to find success individually and collectively.


Victory belongs to each of us individually, and we can keep our dreams alive when we strive for them daily. Each of us uniquely defines success as we are unique people. Upon realizing and accepting the fact, we can move forward with our ambition, connect with those who think similarly, and see our vision materialize.

The news continues to speak to the Great Resignation plus employees being fired without warning upsetting the work and personal environment on many levels. Should you be in a leadership position, now is the time to examine all the processes, rules, and regulations in place as you learn from the worst to become the type of leader or executive that people admire.

Adding to the upheaval in the workplace, there is a new leadership style brewing for the better:

  • Encourage instead of chastising
  • Strategizing with employees individually or career growth
  • Rethinking of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make improvements

Become the Leader You Will Admire

Embrace all lessons surrounding you, realizing the inequities and lack of fairness surrounding you. Cementing the idea of leading includes sharing your valuable insights with others and then finding a way to broadcast them to help communities. Revisit your values and priorities and steadily incorporate the lessons you learn to launch yourself into a respectable leadership position. Next, embrace those realizations to do better than your previous encounters combined. The best sales and business strategy is to be respectful of all and belittle none. Not only will you hold your head up proudly, but others will look to you for guidance.

Following the suggestions above, not only will you hold your head up proudly, but others will look to you for guidance as you become a leader in your own right, negating any possibility of ever hearing again, ‘You Are fired!’
