Would you ever consider telling your loyal clients they are no longer wanted?
Why would I even pose that question? I just learned of a Japanese restaurant that created and served the most delicious sushi rolls to its customers. You could always find people lined up outside their door waiting to be seated so they too could enjoy those savory rolls.
One day management decided that they wanted to serve more authentic Japanese dishes; ones with which most Americans are not familiar. This change in the menu could have been a brilliant move not only attracting typical Americans who love sushi, but also traditional Japanese who miss the food of their country of origin.
The mistake made was the restaurant management decided to no longer serve the sushi rolls that had people lined up outside waiting to get in every single night of the week. Instead, they eliminated the rolls to solely focus on true Japanese cuisine. It was a signal that the loyal customers were no longer welcome. The crowds disappeared and so may the restaurant.
As entrepreneurs, it is wise to focus on a specific niche at first while over-delivering on expectations. Then you can more easily expand outward. Change your mindset to adding complementary services and products to your current business repertoire. You will attract more people in your marketing effort and your business development will take off.
