Do You Have A Disaster Recovery Plan?

Assuming you are happy with where you are, do you have a viable plan in place for when the time comes that something goes wrong?

In terms of career, continual study of complementary venues is a wise idea to make yourself more marketable when the need arises.  When it comes to business, what will you do when should your hard drive or computer suddnely decide not to work?  It once happened to me.

In the early years of running my business, I wasn’t aware of the consequences.  My hard drive died.  Luckily my husband knew an IT guru who advised us to put the hard drive in the freezer for a few hours. And lucky for me, my husband knew how to remove my hard drive from the computer!  Upon reinstalling, all of my information was magically recovered .  That’s when we recognized the need for an improved backup system.

Another mistake made in the early days was the “do-it-yourself” attitude.  Waking up to reality, we now have internet service that continually monitors the computer for viruses and unauthorized users attempting to get past the firewall.  The service also continually monitors and backs up all of my files.  Should the computer go down one day, we can easily retrieve what is needed.

Medium-sized and larger companies make the error of believing they will save money monitoring everything themselves.  But it is the companies who specialize in disaster recovery services that make it far more cost-effective enabling you to keep your attention on effectively running your business and remaining focused on your clientele.
