Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:
“Penny Wise Pound Foolish” Applies To Business
The timeless expression, ‘Penny Wise Pound Foolish’, refers to saving money on small items while spending needless money on more substantial items. In business, we sometimes overlook the necessity involved for the more expensive, thinking it will never be a need for us.
Two perfect examples have come to my attention that everyone should note in terms of their terms for making financial decisions. I share them so that you may avoid foolish applies to business.
The Inexpensive Version: Avoid the ‘Foolish Applies to Business’
These days just about everything offered for business has several offerings involved. Entrepreneurs or those seeking work are on a tighter budget and invariably choose the least expensive or free option. However, an international corporation was known to have done the same with its database management system. They chose the cheaper version, but instead of saving money, they lost a tremendous sum without realizing the consequences ahead of time.
Imagine sales representatives stationed worldwide dependent upon keeping the database and customer contact information up to date with a system that doesn’t work correctly. More specifically, the links provided to move from one screen to another were not hotlinks as they should be but, maybe in the best case, tepid. In other words, representatives worldwide spent more time clicking links repeatedly until they worked, and other times found it necessary to log in and out of the system many times over. Rememberalways, foolish applies to business.
When you multiply the wasted daily minutes by the thousands of worldwide representatives and then multiply the monthly and yearly toll, you will soon recognize an enormous waste of time and money never to be recovered. It would have been financially far savvier to invest in the higher-end version.
Backup Solutions
It was ironic that I wrote about Plan B yesterday because that was exactly what I needed today. A website used frequently had a phishing expedition going on. Unfortunately, I took the bait by accident. My computer sunk, I had to turn it off to get it repaired. Always take precautions and seek advice from those you trust to avoid foolish that applies to business.
In the past, I’ve written about the importance of having a backup system, whether local or in the cloud. That was in place, thank goodness. In my new town, I spotted an Apple Store and took the computer in to have a Genius look at it. Some people wonder why I spent more money on the Apple computer than just any old computer. Today proved my decision to be correct.
The Genius thoroughly cleaned the files, removed the malware, and explained each step of the way. My computer is old and not under warranty, so I asked about the cost of the half-hour service. The answer was, “as long as nothing is physically broken, we offer clean-up service for free.” My computer was up and running within 30 minutes – at no cost. That to me was well worth the extra price for the computer!
Entire perspective: Avoid Foolish that Applies to Business
Although a budget is an issue for most, including me, there are times when investing in the overall solution is more critical. Before making your next major purchase for a business or career, think about what you are truly purchasing. Time efficiency, backup in place, and empowerment of getting to the goal in a diagonal line rather than a circuitous route are all worthy of consideration before you “settle” on your next significant investment. Re-examine what you currently do, and the advice that others firmly provide to avoid foolish that applies to business.
When your decisions are aligned with your brand, vision, and goals, you will be headed toward the Smooth Sale!
