Tracking To Remain On Target

Tracking your efforts is essential to know whether you should eliminate one venue, tweak to improve, or continue doing exactly what is already in place.  However, just as with other activities, it is a wise move to zero in on the most important avenues to track so that the effort itself doesn’t become all time-consuming.

As a business professional, tracking your sales and future clientele in a database system is imperative.  By keeping an eye on your activities, you always have contact information at hand, notes for next steps, and dates to check back in.  Monitoring and following up are key for salespeople to become top producers and entrepreneurs to establish a well recognized personal brand.   Otherwise, you will not remember the important details thus eliminating the required trust.    As a job seeker, track the sites best matched to your pursuit and those who said, “call me”.  Make note of the conversations and for check-in dates to follow up.

Worst Example

The worst story heard was that of a businessman who couldn’t even recall the names of his better clients.  Had they at the very least been listed in a document, he would have been able to call them to check in regularly to be certain all is well, and then potentially sell new services.  As you would expect, his conversation with me was that he was considering quitting his business.

Have you ever been asked to help another or perhaps join a Joint Venture Partnership effort?  You might not need a database for the effort, but at the very least, an excel spreadsheet will come in mighty handy.  You will be able to list the folks who said “no”, “maybe” and yes”.  You can also add a column of when to follow-up for those in the “maybe” category.  By the time the project is launched, you have a current listing of those with whom you will want to work closely to be assured the project is a success.

Business Tracking Ideas

Another type of monitoring is that of your own business effort such as:

  • Social network growth
  • Website / blog / program popularity
  • Requests and recognition coming forth

Are you an avid user of Twitter?  Monitor the tweets and activities of yours that are re-tweeted the most and are added to lists of others.  This is a great indicator of what your audience needs, wants and desires leading you to develop new content and services.

By employing a tracking system for your business, you will find greater strength by recognizing which avenues to further pursue.  Underlying this you will develop a wider recognized brand presence that will lead you to the Smooth Sale!
