Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Move from Same Old to Something New

Previously, I wrote about the older concept of throwing spaghetti on the wall to see what sticks, but it is wise to move from same old to something new. The concept is to not only fill your pipeline with prospects but also fill it with new ideas to see which take hold best.

But on occasion, there is that middle stage whereby some of the noodles lose their stickiness and begin to fall to the floor. In realistic terms, we lose our enthusiasm for repeatedly doing the same. This may apply to career or entrepreneurial endeavors, and according, may well be time to move from same old to something new.

Motivation, commitment and perseverance feed into one another and together propel success.

Boredom vs. Action: Same Old to Something New

Upon reaching the point of almost boredom or questioning why you are spending your time on something providing minimal results, it becomes time to change. Otherwise, remaining stuck decreases self-confidence and eventually may lead you to quit.  The idea of change can provoke fear and a tough challenge. But once the shock of the need to change fades away, you are then positioned to take action.

As an employee, you might consider future employment that complements your current field of knowledge. For example, if you are in sales offering products, you might give selling a related service a try.

Personal Story

My own example is that once upon a time, I sold copiers. The next year, I gave selling print services a try.   It wasn’t to my liking but provided me with incredible insight on how to improve sales of copiers. My next job with a copier firm proved to be one of the best job I ever held. Later on, I moved to the high tech industry.

As you move from one to the next, you do so with great insight due to the additional knowledge under your belt.

Entrepreneurial Questions: Move From Same Old to Something New

On the entrepreneurial side, review all of the projects to which you have committed this past year. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Which do I enjoy most?
  • Which are too time-consuming to be enjoyable?
  • Which do not provide a good ROI?

Needless to say, you want to keep the projects in place that you enjoy the most and contribute to the bottom line. But of other two categories, which projects are to be substituted?

Give these questions due thought. As a new plan comes to light, your motivation will increase to embrace it. Upon conveying the new strategy to the people you meet, they will hear and see your enthusiasm. In turn, this will strengthen the relationships and help reach a new and broader audience. Looking back, you will be glad you took the steps to move from same old to something new.
