Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  Is Social Media Landing You Outstanding Meetings?

If you are wondering how it’s possible to land excellent meetings via social media, let alone find the right clients, then this article is for you. Why is this so? Today, I enjoyed one of the best meetings on record.

My Story

It was previously stated that when social media was first announced, I saw the potential and jumped in to learn. I loved all that it had to offer. Meanwhile, no one in the small town, where I was living at the time, understood my business. So I hid out online, all day, every day. Each morning, I looked forward to jumping online.

In the process, and to my great surprise, the Smooth Sale brand was built by sharing my best insights. Even better, I began to connect with people I admired. Simple notes of introduction explaining why I liked the style or the work of others was the start of building large networks.

You know you have a good match and likely qualified partner or client when someone else uses a similar style. An attorney who wants to encourage young adults to become authors approached me on LinkedIn. I agreed to an initial meeting. That grew into an interview at in-house TV studio of another. The three of us met today to discuss further possibilities. Social media pre-qualified all of us, and it appears we have much awaiting us. Stay tuned for their individual blogs.

Read the exact communication strategies I use that combine the Twitter and LinkedIn platforms, published by The Conversion Company.  It’s the perfect one-two step that has introduced me to remarkable people. The same strategy applies to connecting with those who may help to find the next employment opportunity.

Your Story

Most meetings are a waste of time because people are there to promote themselves. There is little collaborative intention. If you are frustrated with these types of meetings, consider the following:

  • Are you agreeing to meet out of desperation?
  • Do you qualify the people and the intent of the meeting ahead of time?
  • Do you suggest an agenda for the meeting ahead of time so that everyone is on the same page?

Should you be truly frustrated, do keyword searches on LinkedIn to find the people you believe will provide a great balance for your work. By balance, I’m referring to where you may help one another grow. Once names appear, read the profiles of each prior to connecting.  In the communication back and forth, you will recognize the better matched possibilities.  These are the meetings that will become the best you ever had!

Sales Tips:

  1. Stop wasting time with meetings that produce little in return
  2. Qualify and match those you intend to meet to have productive meetings
  3. Agree to an agenda prior to the meeting
  4. At the start of meetings, ask what’s new and of what each person is most proud.
  5. Ask for the vision each person in attendance holds, as it stands today.
  6. Inquire as to improved visions by working together – what will the bigger picture look like?
  7. Try to give equal time to each person in the meeting to explain their goals
  8. Offer referrals as appropriate.
  9. By the end of the meeting ask for agreed upon next steps
  10. Follow-up to move forward
