Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

Are You Alert to Your Response Impact to Distractions?

Annoyances and emergencies will delay projects if we allow them, so the question is, ‘Are you alert to your response impact to distractions?’ People often will not pay attention to the time waste due to the interferences. The sinkhole becomes a delay in completing what is necessary to satisfy employers, partners, and-or clientele. Next, the pressure becomes almost more than one can handle unless we pay attention to our processes.

My Story

During my sales career, management would berate team members for not having enough prospects in the pipeline because sales were lacking. The pressure was nerve-wracking. My approach was to leave the office as soon as possible and return near closing time to avoid the nonsensical approach to motivating employees.

The problem compounded when the manager demanded we complete time-consuming documentation. Most team members would allow the documentation to eat away at their nerves and then attend to it versus the need to approach more prospects. The stress got to them, wasted much time, slowing them down and not allowing for the need to improve incoming sales.

Once, the pressure was worse than ever for us to conclude pending sales. Of course, the sales manager demanded we fill out yet another form in the middle of the hustle. My observance of behaviors made it clear that the better method was to complete the paperwork upfront and concentrate on selling immediately afterward.

Staying true to form and knowing I had to finalize sales immediately, I asked the manager to stay for a moment upon my acceptance of the form. Surprised, he agreed, and the other surprise was my response impact to distractions. As he stood by my desk, I filled out the form. I then abruptly put it in his hands and said, please excuse me; I need to leave to finalize sales. The shock on his face is a memorable laugh!

Similarly, working remotely or in another capacity at the corporate level, distractions are typical much of the time. Our time is valuable and so it is necessary to observe our behaviors, too. Frequently, habits take over and we behave like machinery rather than thinking through the priorities of what needs to complete first.

Your Story: Are You Alert to Your Response Impact to Distractions?

Productivity requires that we know our priorities and remain faithful to them. At the end of each day, it’s best to record everything that needs to complete the following day. Next, prioritize the projects and tasks in order of their importance. Every morning, review the list to remind yourself of what needs to complete and if anything was accidentally omitted to include. The list is necessary because invariably an interruption will occur. It’s best to prepare upfront and be flexible for handling the unexpected circumstances.

It’s smart to be alert to your response impact to distractions. If you habitually put off taking care of the unexpected, you may be jeopardizing your business or career. Consider the following questions:

Do You:

  • Agonize over the thought of completing everything to only waste time, and thereby create a negative response impact to distractions?
  • The next time a distraction occurs, stop to realize your habitual response. Put off the interruption to realize later that the issue is worse than if you took care of it immediately?
  • Stop everything and fix the situation upfront to then refocus on work?

Reviewing your habits for handling interruptions to improve your future responses will aid your productivity. Working through the system on a job may lead to a promotion. Your attentiveness to matters will impress current and prospective clientele in the business world. Accordingly, business growth will become more natural when you take the necessary steps to become alert to your response impact to distractions.

In Conclusion: Are You Alert to Your Response Impact to Distractions?

We do best when we realize our habits affect all that we do and attempt. Accordingly, the outcomes may not be as stellar as we desire. Improving business growth requires we review our habits to eliminate a negative response impact to distractions and the unnecessary wasting of time, . Doing so enables us to focus on our clientele and more smoothly build future business.
