Are You Enthusiastic About Work?

Success requires that we diligently improve our efforts and raises the question, ‘are you enthusiastic about work?’ No matter the complexity of our work, without enthusiasm or the desire to do well, it is likely that our endeavors will prove mediocre. The mediocrity becomes a downward cycle providing little satisfaction while adding to the reluctance to show up. It’s best to admit to feeling defeat to be able to create a new plan for climbing upward.

My Story

One of the better memories from a public speaking class I once took is that of a mantra we were to repeat ten times before each session. The Dale Carnegie remembrance is, ‘You have to act enthusiastic to be enthusiastic.’ Typically, most attendees would state the mantra without a smile upfront. We were encouraged to use hand gestures and move as we continued the chant. Before long, higher energy, including smiles among all, became evident. And then we were each ready to resume instruction.

As simplistic as the chant may sound, it helps pull us out of the doldrums to re-energize our thinking to complete tasks and employ new ideas as we continue. We also serve ourselves to reflect on our beginning and realize how far we have come.

Initially, the idea sounded irrelevant to dealing with clientele. However, given the dismal atmosphere in the corporate sales arena, I had nothing to lose. Before contacting the clientele I desired for my resume, I did everything possible to increase my energy. 

Prospective clients could hear the enthusiasm in my voice and words, both encouraging factors to continue the conversations. Most of all, being in a high-energy mode, the dialogue becomes friendlier and more intriguing as sharing stories kicks in. The combination of high energy, enthusiasm, and story-sharing influences sales. And the same will enable one to put more effort into their unique work. 

Giving up is rarely the correct answer. The better solution is to motivate ourselves to be enthusiastic about work. The best part is that by achieving a higher energy mode, enthusiasm increases for what we are doing and works toward eliminating the thought of quitting.

Considering community service that fits your talent and interest can perk up enthusiasm all around. Use your skill to help a community in need of what you know. The satisfaction of knowing you do show the way for a community to improve its efforts is one of the more rewarding things you can do.

It is comforting and rewarding to know your knowledge will benefit a community as an entrepreneur who works primarily by yourself. Over time, we see reciprocity for the giving in ways previously unexpected. New ideas, introductions, and possibilities for additional work can come your way. The trust and faith people develop in you is motivation to continue and improve.

Questions that come your way and the feedback of appreciation for your help can be motivating and make you enthusiastic about work once again. As experience takes hold and you detect a common theme, the need for more insight may lead you to new ideas for product development and new services. 

Upon feeling you are in your element and are doing well by your audience, the energy to do more kicks in. Before you know it, you become enthusiastic about work and soon possess the mindset of wanting to do more that can potentially help a broader audience. Or the experience may give you additional ideas for advancing your career in the corporate arena. 

Possibly, best of all, new connections will come your way, providing further introductions that lead to new possibilities on many levels. Ideas for collaborative projects may arise that can put everyone involved on a higher plane.

In Conclusion:

Upon reviewing your business growth and agility, it is evident that it is essential to become enthusiastic about work! The learning behind the scenes contributes to further achievements, knowledge, and the building a powerful brand. As others witness the progress, business growth is almost inevitable.
