Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

Are You Overlooking Essential Elements for Business?

Many people and companies are now attempting to embrace diversity and inclusion, but one question remains, ‘Are you overlooking essential elements for business?’ First and foremost, each company must understand what diversity and inclusion mean, how they interpret it, and then convey it to those they hire. And while on a job interview, the candidate will do well to observe all they encounter on the way in to ask appropriate questions.

Entrepreneurs and smaller companies have plenty of lessons to learn by observing the actions of the more extensive operations. Heeding the insights to do better can and will lead to a better outcome for all those involved.

My Story

Upon observing the females associated with one organization, I was astounded. The company does an excellent job hiring people from different countries and of varying heritage. Keep in mind that none of the female employees are Hollywood actresses. Yet, it appears they are each required to undergo extensive cosmetic surgery. Worse, I see their uniform hairstyle as insulting to all concerned. It is a perfect example of overlooking essential elements for business.

Why?

Varying heritages have varying hair textures. The variances range from thin to thick, straight to curly, and everything in-between. Yet, upon seeing the female members of the team on television, every female has the same straightened hair and combed-out style, thereby ignoring the person’s natural gift.

The effect of the uniform style for all minimizes – or even omits – the notion of inclusion.

Requiring everyone to look the same is hardly a diversity ideal; it’s the opposite. People of various skin tones from different countries showcase a white woman’s hairstyle. How can the company justify its approach, or is that what diversity and inclusion mean to them?

Upon searching for current company statistics, I found the article provided by Compass entitled, ‘8 Wage Gap Statistics to Know In 2022.’  The statistics are eye-opening and lead to the question, Are you overlooking essential elements for business?

It is a reckless and complete waste of time when job seekers do not research the wage gap and attempt to overcome the barrier during a job interview. According to the article, 32 percent of women consider leaving a position once they discover the wage gap.

As more people are willing to quit their jobs to either find another or attempt entrepreneurship, it is short-sighted on the company end not to review all current systems. Other than artifacts, nothing remains as is forever, and even the artifacts begin to deteriorate.

Your Story: Are You Overlooking Essential Elements for Business?

Should you employ people, it is best to review the current policies in place and how they match up with newer trends. Consider whether it’s time to revise how you treat your staff, distribute opportunities, and provide salaries. Admit whether you may be overlooking essential elements for business.

An excellent sales approach is to speak to the people ‘in the trenches.’ Those who experience discrimination, a lack of inclusiveness, or a diminishing salary, are the ones in the best position to reveal their thoughts on how to equalize the playing field. An essential piece for doing this is that you will step closer to instilling inclusiveness in the office by requesting their ideas.

Another strategy for instilling inclusion is to reconsider team meetings. Most often, they are repetitive with the year-end goal in mind. However, if each department were to take a monthly approach that leads to year-end success and has everyone contribute, likely, results will vastly improve.

Before each meeting, let the team members know the month’s goal and what the team will achieve together during the session. Each person’s experiences will affect their perspectives and encourage a well-thought-out plan. Accordingly, everyone will prepare their insights ahead of time and be ready to share their thoughts. Moreover, the participants will give each member a sense of purpose and importance that will become motivators to perform their best.

In Conclusion: Overlooking Essential Elements For Business

It is in the company’s best interest to retain long-term employees, as is the focus on building a loyal clientele.
