Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Ask Questions to Reveal the Truth

Many entrepreneurs today are either seeking part-time or full-time work.  Being creative, positive-minded, and always looking at the bigger picture, they sometimes miss details that include opportunities for learning the truth.  Asking questions, many questions will solve the problem.

Listening carefully requires a number of additional skills that include, confidently asking for clarification, checking for contradiction, and aligning with your values. It all leads back to the theme of ‘Ask questions to reveal the truth.’

Clarify

One person was advised that if she took a freelance job, just as her friend did, she would make lots of money.  It was suggested she ask her friend what “lots of money” meant to her.  Everyone has a different definition as well as an idea of what is acceptable.  What applies to one doesn’t necessarily apply to another.  The amount had to be nailed down to know whether it was worth pursuing.

Red Flags

As you ask questions of a hiring manager or of a client, listen carefully to how those questions are answered.  Should there be any sign of someone speaking down to you, remove yourself from the scene as quickly as possible.  Because no matter what you say or do, or how you perform should you decide to move forward, you will never truly be appreciated.  In fact, in the best case, the experience will be frustrating. Always ask many question to reveal the truth.

Another signal of which to beware is denial of what was previously stated.  A good way to manage this scenario is to take notes using the person’s vocabulary.  When statements are read back, no one is able to deny their own verbiage.

A recent example of denial was that of a specific statement posted on a website.  While speaking to a job-seeker, the executive asked about the expectation of salary.  Upon hearing the amount was posted on his website, the executive back-pedaled trying to alter the situation. The applicant backed away from the opportunity.

Leadership: Ask Questions to Reveal the Truth

You are the leader when you decipher what is untrue or contradictory,  Always be prepared to take steps to protect yourself from harm.  Walking away is the best route no matter how disappointing the situation may be.

Just as you need the truth revealed to you, reciprocate by playing on the highest ground possible.  Answer all questions asked of you with 100% honesty.  You never want to have the information you provided backfire down the road.

Your integrity in the work world is everything and is what makes your personal brand stand out to differentiate you from everyone else.  The mindset to ask questions to reveal the truth is the differentiator for success.

In Conclusion:

By operating in this manner, those with whom you have reciprocal trust and admiration. know you may count on one another.  This is what leads to the Smooth Sale!
