Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

 New Ideas Bring Improved Results

The suggestion was made to have a collaborative sales Twitter Chat today.  I always learn a lot from interacting with members of the sales group while enjoying being in their company.  And Twitter happens to be my favorite social media platform.  The only downside concerning me was that I had no familiarity of how it would work.  Fortunately there was a team lead on the project.

Kudos to Shane Gibson for thinking of the idea to hold the chat, and for all the planning he put into it both before and during the conversation.  He very wisely listed about a dozen questions to be answered by the rest of the group. And as salespeople know to do with any goal, he cleverly added an achievable timeline to go with it.  So next to the question to be asked, the time was clearly stated as to what time an answer would be expected. 

By now you are probably aware that collaboration online brings extraordinary numbers making the time well worthwhile.  The same was true for our Chat.  Impressions totaled into the millions. New connections were made and followers added to our names.

But the bonus was that the hour passed in seemingly 10 minutes.  It was such a high-energy activity as we all continued to tweet original answers, and re-tweet those we enjoyed.  It was as if we were on a joy ride.  At least that’s my own personal perspective.  Apparently a few of us felt the same way, because immediately after the chat, we emailed a note of thanks and asked that we do another chat in the near future.

Trying out new technology, an app, or going to some event you never before dreamt about attending, are all good things to do from time to time.  It puts you in a completely different environment that stimulates new ideas.  Doing so also provides the opportunity to meet and potentially work with people you wouldn’t otherwise meet.

As you stop work for the evening consider:

  • Which apps have recently been mentioned that you ought to consider?
  • Who is the most creative person in your network that might be worth giving a call to check in?
  • Which idea of late still appeals to you that might be worth developing?

The willingness to get out of our comfort zone brings reward in many forms, and the best is learning something new, cutting edge, and having fun at the same time.  Now that’s the Smooth Sale!
