When Others Infringe On your Vacation Time
You look forward to your vacation, get on an airplane and finally arrive at your destination all set to have fun. But the situation changes. Clients have a problem, your employer needs help, co-workers don't care where you are; you are needed more than ever. What do you do?
Unfortunately, to be seen as a value driven provider and caring about your clients, it is a requirement to answer the call of help. But, diplomatically and upfront, let it be known you have already begun your vacation. Provide the time zone hours in relationship to where they are situated. If you are employed, state you expect an extra vacation day.
As you finish up the conversation, ask your client if they feel satisfied with the solution and if they believe all else may wait until after you return. Mention the date of your return and that you will follow-up a couple of days later. Get their agreement before you end the conversation.
Although it's annoying to be disturbed while you are away, the last thing you want to happen is to lose a client or a job. Be of the mindset to always build the relationship and deliver outstanding customer service. This is a winning combination that makes it difficult for the competition.
Tread the waters carefully and wisely so that you may return to a happy place of employment or a returning and referring clientele in order to continue to enjoy the Smooth Sale!
