Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:

Being A Successful Employer Requires Selling

More than ever, being a successful employer requires selling to your employees. Of course, to be successful, the effort necessitates being genuine in approach and empathetic in delivery. We are experiencing a world division on politics and actions to take, but the hybrid work environment also creates more division.

Many articles reveal the dilemma and concern about a potential rivalry that relates to work. The matter is the potential rivalry between those who commute to the office versus those who work at home. The element of unity is often missing between employees and between team members.

My Story

Experience shows that management often has too much to contend with to worry about the happiness of their employees. But it is upside-down thinking from my perspective. Employees build the foundation for the company. The business does well with a team effort in place, attention to detail, and, more importantly, attention to clientele. But little work out well without a team effort and people vying for attention remotely or on the premises.

Managing Is A Sales Job

Business requires attention to developing a loyal clientele that turns into another form of salesforce, resulting in a returning and referring clientele. Accordingly, employers will do well to consider employees as their clients. Similar to asking clientele for feedback to improve one’s effort, Managers will do well to ask each employee multiple questions for everyone’s sake and the company’s benefit. Common questions that appear to work well for most include:

  • What is it that seems to be holding back team progress?
  • How do you see improvement for the entire team?
  • How can you help each team member improve their effort?
  • Are the benefits you provide sufficiently, or is something missing, such as an extra benefit?
  • Do you supply adequate daytime and vacation breaks?
  • Do you assist with career planning and promotion for all individuals?
  • Do you employ a diverse staff, and does everyone feel included?
  • Do you periodically arrange team events outside of the office to promote camaraderie?

On the back end, employers will do well to require intermittent breaks for employees to recharge and regain their focus. Larger companies may offer activity break rooms while encouraging remote workers to exercise in-house or enjoy the outdoors.

Upon implementing all or some of the suggestions, monitor which one works well. Similar to business development, leverage the ideas that work best. The upside is that the typical ‘revolving door syndrome’ of hiring employees and training them only to have some quit will slow. Accordingly, the company will save much money eliminating the ongoing need to hire and train. Even better, when employees are happy, they are motivated to put in their best effort, contributing to the company’s benefit.

Experience provides us with better insights. Accordingly, I was drawn to Inclusion Allies, an organization devoted to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. For more in-depth thought and insights, I encourage you to review their introductory newsletter indicating the work they do and how they may assist individuals and companies in being a successful employer.

The first newsletter provides excellent insights into their work and what may transpire when more people become involved. The involvement is not only inspiring but also educational. You may read the newsletter by clicking this link.

Your Story: Being A Successful Employer Requires Inclusive Selling

‘Employees are your clients; treat them with respect and help them feel included. It is essential to develop excellence in internal branding. In other words, word of mouth by employees to those they know. If you have heard people bad-mouthing their employers, you will recognize the urgency of making everyone feel welcome and included and know that their voices will be heard when the time calls for their input. Equality among all, including equal pay for the same work, is essential to achieve the goal of creating raving employees.

Upon reading these suggestions, consider how you may elevate your company to become known as the go-to establishment for employment. Survey staff and inquire how you may improve upon having everyone feel they are a welcome team member. Have them contribute ideas for helping with their career paths. Make them feel wanted and appreciated with additional questions and insights.

As a sign of appreciation for the feedback employees provide. Arrange a special picnic or lunch at a restaurant and award everyone for the value they add to the benefit of all. Turn your employees into your raving support team to continue growing and enjoy satisfaction in the growth of those surrounding you.
