What do you say when another forgets your phone appointment?
We all do it once in a while – forget a phone appointment. For some reason it is easier to forget than it is a face-to-face meeting.
Unexpected circumstances arise or a person is so busy, they simply forgot to make proper note or pay attention. When you are on the receiving end of a forgotten appointment, it can become an irritant. How you follow-up will make a difference for securing business down the road.
My advice is to put yourself in the shoes of the person who did you wrong. Have you ever done something similar? Can you be forgiving? It isn’t nearly as bad as having driven for 30 minutes to find the other person forgot. Think twice about the message you leave on their voicemail. Your message will refelect whether you wish to try again or write it off.
Remember, your messages are part of your marketing/branding effort – so use a friendly tone and say you were looking forward to the conversation. Offer to send a brief email outlining when you are next available for them to choose a new date and time. This forgiving tactic will help build relationships, give an inkling of your customer service, and quite possibly will turn your prospects into clients.
Keeping a positive mindset and pleasant nature will make your business development much easier, you will close more sales and your sales will ease into a Smooth Sale!
