Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Delays and Timing May Produce Improved Results

My frustrating experience of needing to go back to the drawing board for an improved plan reemphasized that delays and timing may produce improved results. An accumulation of these lessons learned has me advising that something better awaits each of us as we encounter disappointment.

The idea of timing and using the waiting period to improve upon our work applies to all we do to include career, the job hunt and business endeavors.

Recent experiences regarding delays and timing include:

  • Creation of a new book via Amazon versus the traditional publishing route
  • Collaborative projects previously put on hold
  • Deciding against a project only to find another who delivers a similar service in a format more in alignment with mine

The old saying “patience is a virtue” holds more merit as I mature. While I enjoy doing things quickly, it’s good to pause on occasion to truly think out in full what is to be created along with the “why” and the “how”. Once the answers are in place, we are positioned to create an improved plan.

Working with Disappointment

Envision your best outcome

Delays provide extra time to contemplate what you truly desire from the perceived project. Write out all of the details required to complete your picture of accomplishment. This is to include anything new to be learned.

Set the goal and date for achievement

Since the timeline has already been pushed back, give yourself a breather by adding a little extra time to get back into full swing and completion. Set a comfortable date for all of the components to be in order.

Create a milestone plan of achievement

If your project has multiple layers to it, a list of milestones to be achieved helps to break up the enormity that lies ahead. Add completion dates to each milestone.

Create monthly and weekly goals

Monthly and weekly goals are to be set and attained similar to your milestones in place. They serve to keep you on track plus added motivation is yours as you are able to check these off as completed.

Keep on top of your daily task list

You can literally save a month of time, over the course of a year, by continually writing down to do’s and crossing them off as they are completed. There is never a forgotten item or wasted time trying to remember what’s next by adhering to this system.

Create a safety net for interruptions

Emergencies frequently arise due to personal or clientele needs. As these arise, come to a negotiation with yourself for the extra amount of time you are willing to put in during evenings and weekends in the event this is needed.
