Next, the question becomes whether we have the gumption not only to stand the test of time, but also to encourage others to excel. Leading necessitates an open mindset that welcomes ideas, however they may appear. Those who downplay the ‘seemingly ridiculous thought’ are the ones who will lose authority over time. Today’s best example is the advancement in AI and Robotics; there is no doubt that when the ideas were first proposed, they were ridiculed. Today, the combined technologies are changing not only the business landscape but also how we live, work, and play.
Fit In or Stand Out
Each day is an opportunity to learn and grow by observing others’ actions, listening to their words, and reflecting on the past to identify potential improvements ahead. No matter where we journey, we often face the choice of fitting in or standing out, and we may find ourselves admired or left behind due to ridicule. It’s in our hands to adapt or strengthen our resolve to keep going.
Embrace G.O.A.L.S.
Growing up with ongoing disparagement matters not. Each person has unique ambitions and ideas about how they may achieve them. Goals are not a time-consuming element in our lives; rather, they are a roadmap to help us achieve our ‘dreams’ and step into leadership. Digging deeper into goals, the acronym I created stands for:
‘Go for it.’
‘Own who you are.’
‘Advance forward tirelessly.’
‘Lead yourself and then empower communities at large.’
‘Success gradually becomes yours.’
Knowing-Learning-Sharing
Those who dare to share what they learn from varied experiences in the field, from books, and from occasional life-altering disasters, may unexpectedly put themselves in a position of leadership as they begin to capture attention. Leadership isn’t about popularity as it appears in our early school years, but rather about those who openly share their genuine experiences to reveal lessons learned. Typically, the one act alone develops admiration and requests to learn more, with the potential of invitations to speak at gatherings. Miracles appear on varying levels, some basic and others almost challenging to fully comprehend; nevertheless, they are ours to heed.
