Multi-Pronged Approach Creates Improved Results

Upon announcing a new idea, creative people almost always hear “that won’t work!” but the multi-pronged approach creates improved results. It is the motivated individuals who move beyond the negativity to figure out precisely what will work. The process of trial and error may take minutes or it could take years, but the motivated continue moving forward.

A leading edge success factor is to take a multi-pronged approach to consider multiple options before traveling down a singular road that may or may not work out. Time is of the essence and affects budget too. Time and money provide the urgency of a broader approach upfront.

Examples: Multi-Pronged Approach Creates Improved Results 

A personal example is that I have a sizable YouTube channel and am about to enhance it. Yet I was advised of the new Periscope technology. While it would be silly for me to drop YouTube, it is well worthwhile exploring what Periscope has to offer. The two platforms are similar in that they are both video, yet each is different enough to make the time worthwhile for research.

  • How are you handling the forever increasing choices for apps to download and the forever expanding social media platforms?
  • Are you researching the new to see what complements what you already in place?

Sales Perspectives

A deciding factor for implementing a new platform is whether it complements my business model.

By expanding your repertoire, you will increase audience attention and ultimately sales or job possibilities.

Ask Questions

Questions are your friend whether for a job interview, a sales meeting or in contemplation of developing a new idea. Find people who have gone before you who didn’t quite make it. Ask where they believe they missed the mark.

Ask negative individuals why they don’t believe it will work and ask the same of those encouraging you. For example:

  • Why do you believe that?
  • Where do you think you might have done better?
  • How do you believe I might improve my own results?

Sales Perspective

The increased understanding will lead you to improved decisions. Decisions today affect your outcome tomorrow. More importantly, over time we learn that the multi-pronged approach creates improved results.

Listen and Clarify

Asking questions without truly listening produces little. Listen carefully to what is being said and not said. Ask additional questions regarding the omissions from your perspective and for more insight on the answers provided. On occasion an answer may have two meanings, or you may not be familiar with unique terms.

It’s important to ask for clarification in order to establish sound credibility. A favorite true story example is that of a hiring manager who created a fictitious name for software to use when interviewing candidates. Those who claimed they were familiar with it were quickly dismissed.
