Attract the Right Job Or Clientele:
What Does Winning Mean to You?
The concept of winning offers a variety of concepts and ideas that can benefit one or many. In the selling environment, the common phrase is to work for a win-win. Customers receive what they desire, and the salesperson typically earns a sizable commission. Behind the scenes, the company also wins, especially when the service excels and client loyalty becomes a given.
Once we each answer the question, ‘What does winning mean to you?’ we can move forward with a better approach. A current example is that of one lucky winner forthcoming in the Powerball contest. Will the winning person reward themselves only with the $2 billion-plus or reach out to benefit their family, communities, or society for an expanded win?
Companies can mirror the idea when awarded a noteworthy contract. A substantial corporate agreement typically will only benefit the executives, possibly the salesperson closing the sale. Is it worthwhile for the executives to consider setting aside a percentage to help all employees, with a team celebration and extra training, as an example? If the latter, it will be a gesture that will encourage the staff to remain loyal for the long term.
My Story
There are days when pressure may get to us, and we crave receiving good news. When a significant sale or an excellent opportunity finally comes our way, we tend to pat ourselves on the back while some loudly boast about their achievements. Admittedly, it feels good to savor the special moment of recognition, but that’s all that arrives – the moment, and then it passes to become a distant memory.
Traditionally, winning becomes a form of being self-centered, proving oneself superior to another. But winning is never 100% of the time, and boasting can put one in the sinkhole syndrome where no one else wants to associate. Gloating about winning serves no one well. It’s best to acknowledge the win to focus on how we may expand future possibilities by reviewing the details to uncover what works exceptionally well.
Developing A Broader Perspective
It is always a good feeling when a win is on the table. However, it works to our benefit and those we involve when we can expand the experience of enjoying a win. Returning to the idea of winning a large sum of money, imagine the effect of contributing to the safety of one’s community, donating to medical research, or doing community service of one’s choosing.
The people working for the greater good enter a new realm of leadership, striving to empower many. Entrepreneurs, small business owners, and corporate executives will do well to examine where they are today and how they may expand their reach by benefitting larger and more communities. Done well, the exponential factor will contribute heartily as many will experience the benefits. Contributing time, money, and effort to the greater good will have a payback or a boomerang effect far greater than one can imagine.
Should the desire take hold to develop a respected brand by working toward the greater good, it becomes time to consider today’s controversial topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The concept also applies to empowering larger communities. The payback is receiving more comprehensive ideas for enhancing and strengthening our current endeavors. The transformation to a broader perspective will have you redefine what winning means to you!
Your Story: What Does Winning Mean to You?
Possibilities are limitless when you consider your networks and all the people you know. Even when only 1% are the ones to admire your work and vision, the numbers can produce significant outcomes. By focusing on the greater good and how you may expand upon the service you provide, potentially involving others, possibilities skyrocket. More celebratory occasions occur with good news arriving. Using those moments to recognize the people behind the scenes will encourage everyone to continue on the path with you.
Next, the idea brings up the phrase, ‘leave no one behind.’ A Google search reveals that the concept represents the unequivocal commitment of all UN Member States to eradicate poverty in all its forms, end discrimination, and exclusion, and reduce the inequalities and vulnerabilities that leave people behind and undermine the potential of individuals and of humanity as a whole.
The SDGs are based on the following beliefs and principles: – The United Nations member states work together with a high level of cooperation to improve the circumstances of all people in the world and place them at the core of future development.
The four principles of SDG are People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
In Conclusion: What Does Winning Mean to You?
Should we move from the notion that winning is a solo event to the idea we can benefit society, we may accomplish much more than we already do. The song lyrics by John Lennon, Imagine, come to mind:
Imagine all the people
Livin’ life in peace
You
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
