How do you survive the first few years of entrepreneurship?

This was a question asked of me last week. Janelle was shaken to her core. She had been a high-powered saleswoman and rose the ranks to become the Vice President of sales for a well-known corporation. Yet she felt she landed on another planet as an entrepreneur not able to attract prospects or clients to the services she has to offer.

Janelle’s story had me reminiscing down memory lane – and I recognized how far I had come. And her call emphatically reminded me the importance of building relationships. Three people, two of whom are well-known, told Janelle to call me as did another contact in Europe. This was a testament to my teachings of how to turn your clientele into your sales force and of the meaning of a true Smooth Sale!

As we spoke on the phone, I let Janelle know she wasn’t alone. Not only is the knowledge of how to relationship sell critical, but as a business owner, knowledge of marketing, marketing-communications, social media and business planning and systems are also critical to survive. I advised her to not get into a state of overwhelm but instead approach each day with a plan of action in hand and proceed with baby steps. By the end of the year she will be in a very different place.

Then I shared my all-time killer strategy for advancing quickly. Each year, I recognize my exact missing link of expertise and seek the right coach to help me. The investment in my business paid me back in rich dividends many times over. Every time I come into contact with others after a 6 month period, I’m always asked, “How are you advancing so quickly?”

The good news is I view myself as a messenger for what works best. Having survived all of the trial and error and much monetary investment in my business, I openly share through my coaching, training, speaking and webinar programs what I have learned.
