Lessons from Horrible Holiday Parties Corporate Style

Exchanging stories last night about the excellent model corporations have demonstrated on how not to throw a holiday party had us laughing out loud last night!

1.  Whether to be faithful or unfaithful

One party was slated to be at a hotel where food was provided but alcohol required expenditure.  The company delared that they did not want employees drinking and then driving afterward, so they were encouraged to stay over at the hotel.

But the clincher was – spouses were not invited!  Hmmm drinking until drunk, hotel room, no spouse around…

2.  Must attend and…

The idea of the holiday was a sound one, and no one really needed to be motivated to attend until…  Employees learned they were required to pay their way to attend the party!  Will it be worth the effort?

3.  Another must attend but “No thanks”

It was a down economy so understandable that the party would be low key.  The worst part was, management was required to make it a potluck.  Worse yet, in those days it was the women who cooked.

Looking forward to finally getting out of the house for a party – the ladies still had to cook the food and bring it for the men to eat.  What a treat -(sacrcasm here).

Moral of the blog:  Whether employed or an entrepreneur, should you be in charge of  a party or any other activity including sales, view it from the other person’s perspective first and then decide whether the intended action is the right choice!
