Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  

Stand Up to Be Counted

In business it is important for all of us to be as amenable as possible in order to consider multiple possibilities and welcome new opportunity.  However, on occasion, exception needs to take place.  Hence the expression, “There is always an exception to the rule”.

On a personal note, I do my best to be nice (as indicated in my first book title), however, when the time calls for it, I step up and speak out.  When injustice is done or a lack of integrity is displayed, it is our duty to speak up in hopes of turning the wrong into an improved direction.  This applies directly to being on a job, looking for a job, building business, sales, and personal relationships too.

Over the past nine months, a company has requested a few “last payments”.  I agreed to the first such request, believing this would serve to discontinue the service.  But afterward, debits were taken from an account and so those were stopped.  And then two more “final payment” requests were made.  You can bet calls were made and a letter written to the CEO.

In my opinion, when activity bordering highly questionable actions takes place, whether or not the company is “one of the big guys” or a small provider, communication needs to take place of how to resolve the situation.  Making strong claims such as “fraudulent activity” won’t stand much of a chance for fixing the problem.  However, “lack of integrity” will most likely draw the perpetrator to your cause.  Case in point, I now have an advocate on my side.

Whether you are a solo entrepreneur or part of a growing establishment, always know your priorities, where you might bend a bit, and where you absolutely will not go another inch.  Stick to your principles for conducting business, and when needed, take action.  At the same time, be professional with your action and communicate clearly without threats to let your viewpoint be known.

More than communicating your perspective, allow your desired results to be known.  But in so doing, establish and obtain agreement on the steps to be taken in order to experience the outcome you expect.  This works for any type of business or personal communication.  Your personal brand becomes respected to include the title of  “leader”.   

Working in this manner will lead you to the Smooth Sale!
