Who Do You Appreciate ~ Cheer Them On!
As we close out the year, spreading good cheer isn’t just about giving pricey gifts.
It’s the thought that counts.
Acknowledging others for their loyalty, support, encouragement, and friendship means the world to most. To be appreciated is many times a rarity and among one of the highest forms of reward.
My Story
As a corporate salesperson, I continually sent thank you notes to clients. Thank you for the meeting, for your time today to visit our showroom, for the sale, for the repeat business, for the referrals, and for your loyalty.
I would similarly send New Year greetings to those prospective clients with whom I experienced promising meetings. Review of their holiday celebration became the starter conversation in the New Year.
Technology and entrepreneurship changed the landscape somewhat. A few personal notes are still sent, but the majority are typed and sent via humorous e-cards. These are appreciated equally well.
Your Story
What became quickly noticeable is that only a small percentage of businesspeople go to the effort to send notes of appreciation. It quickly separates these folks from the pack and distinguishes their unique personal brand in a favorable light.
Your brand is your story. Keep in mind that in the New Year, more business arrives from those who received expression of appreciation from you.
Workplace
Imagine acknowledging people in the workplace and what that might do for morale. They could be people who report to you or who on occasion help you out. Thanking employees with sincerity for the work they contributed all year will be remembered for a very long time. Particularly in the workplace, people want to know their contribution is appreciated. The side benefit is to encourage long-term loyalty.
Should you have an unusually supportive manager, be certain to write a note of appreciation or express it verbally before you depart for the holidays. Middle managers are usually crushed in the middle with criticism, all year long. Your acknowledgment will be appreciated more than you can know.
Likewise, thank the promising sounding prospects for the time they spent with you to consider doing business together. Normally this group is ignored. Your notes will add more thought to fuel the buying fire. It is the unique thoughtfulness that forecasts outstanding future customer care.
