The hot topic for both salespeople and entrepreneurs is the frustration found in trying to get through to decision makers and eliminate a lack of response. Job seekers trying to connect with the right person where they next wish to be employed are facing the same. A timely question is, have the phone and email become old school?

My Story
I used to call the executive suite after working hours when their gatekeepers were gone for the day. This was a successful strategy. Yet only one person agreed it still works for her. The sad fact about email is that it produces so much spam nowadays that people are not trusting it. What to do?
This past year, in particular, I have become acutely aware that Twitter and LinkedIn provide the better platforms for connecting. The message goes directly to the person with whom you wish to connect. It is evident that the message is from you and not spam.
Connect quickly and effectively
Twitter is the quickest method. Seek out those tweets that speak to you intellectually or spiritually. When you see a message of particular interest, let the person know. Check for their response and then decide the best way to proceed.
On LinkedIn, you are able to view the person’s profile listing their work experience. Review for something that stands out and then create a brief message of why it caught your attention. Then ask to connect.
This past year, wonderful opportunities came about due to working these two platforms as described.

If you are one who has been struggling in reaching the right connections, take the challenge to use social media instead. Doing so provides you with increased possibilities for finding your preferred clientele. Those who like your message respond quickly because they, too, are actively seeking out the right connections.
Scan down your home page to find:
- Beautiful pictures
- Inspiring quotes
- Helpful insights
Upon seeing these, follow the person and Retweet the messages you enjoy most. When one person provides multiples of what you enjoy, write that person to let them know. Make this a daily practice. It is almost a guarantee that by the end of the year, unexpected opportunities will become yours and eliminate a lack of response.

- Prior to connecting research their work history.
- Seek out something of interest or a similarity between the two of you.
- Briefly explain in your initial message what caught your attention.
- Ask to connect.
- Offer to share their updates.
- Ask if they would like to talk by phone or Skype.
- Determine if there are potential collaborative projects ahead.
- Listen carefully for introductions to be made.
- Inquire if they would like to set up an official meeting.
